Default Should I be concerned? (Memory card question)

Ok, so I picked up a sandisk 8 GB card at walmart. I tried putting it in my vaio laptop to see if I could transfer the saves on my 1GB sony card and it couldn't recognize it and asked it I wanted to format it.

When I format it on my Vaio, it says it has 4GB space. When I format it on the PSP, it says it has 8 GB space.

Should I be concerned that it's a knockoff card or should I assume that what I'm seeing on the psp is correct?

Sorry to say. Never heard of a fake sandisk stick before. Only ever Sony ones. But seems less likely a fake since it seems the problem is the size. Fakes usually have copy problems

Well that's encouraging at least. Yeah, the laptop is older so I'm hoping it's just some compatibility issue and not something larger. Though I really don't have 4+ GB of stuff ready and easy to download on the stick so I'm just a little wary that once I finally get there I end up finding out it's an issue.

Thanks for the feedback

I use SanDisk and Sony memory sticks and never had a problem. Though the biggest I have is a 4gb Sony one, the SanDisk ones are smaller (2gb).

If the memory stick is in your PSP and it reads as 8gb, then you connect the PSP to the PC via USB does it still only recognise 4gb?

The only thing I can think of, from limited knowledge, is that all 8gb cards are actually SDHC, so if your laptop is older, as you stated, and does not recognize SDHC, it may not have the ability to recognize anything over 4 GB.

I remember there being something about SDHC and compliance when looking through my Panasonic BD-55 owner's manual, and it seems like it went something like what I said above.

I have never had a need to connect it to the PC - I completely forgot I could do that.

I'll have to try that and see how it goes.

Thank you all for the help.

Edit: Trix, thanks for that info, between you're reply and AikonEnt I think I'm all set.
