Default Would this be a sign that my HDMI isn't working properly ? (PS3 related)

Hi, I got a situation here,

A quick recap first: when I jump from the XMB to the game I get the PS3 logo/sound then a black screen pops up, so basically I'm not getting video although I do get audio.

While the game was running without video signal I did the following troubleshooting process on all 3 HDMI connectors:

- Unpluged the HDMI 1 HDTV connector then plug it back in and got video back
- Unpluged the HDMI 2 HDTV connector then plug it back in and got video back
- Unpluged the HDMI connector from PS3 then plug it back in and got video back

As you can see I got exactly the same behavior on all 3 HDMI connectors .... Also if I hit and cycle the TV remote source button back to whichever of the two HDMI inputs were in I got the video back.

It seems I will have to try with a different HDMI cable... eh ? My current HDMI cable it's a Psyclone. My HDTV a Samsung 720p /10801 model LN-S3251D

Hmmm possible handshaking issue? I would actually suspect the problem might be your TV. But yeah, try a different cable first because at the very least it is the cheapest possible fix.

By "handshake" issue does it means incompatibility between a particular hdmi-brand and a particular tv model ?

Definitely do not unplug the HDMI connections while your equipment is turned on. Make sure everything is off first.

I had a similar problem with my PS3/Receiver/Plasma set-up. One day it would work fine, then the next I'd get a black picture, either with or without audio. I was using the more expensive rigid HDMI cables with the net jacket from Monoprice, so I was convinced it couldn't be the cables. I then swapped them with super cheap HDMI cables and guess what - problem solved!

I found that these Monoprice cable are great, but are too rigid and have a large curve radius. So when you hook it up behind the components and you push the rack too far, the cable doesn't give and starts to pull/push on the connection, until it breaks, I guess.

yeah I have exactly the same situation. I will buy the Official Sony PS3 HDMI cable then...

My current (and expensive) Psyclone HDMI cable could be the problem.

Is you PS3 display setting set to 1080i? I would get the same type of thing happening with both PS3 games (Singstar was one) and Blu Rays (remastered Fifth Element) when set to 1080i. I changed it back to 720p and all games and movies work fine now. If I do change it to 1080i I make sure to change it back when playing those games/movies.

Yes it is on 1080i, the weird thing is that at the beginning it wasn't doing it until recently after a year and a half. Also I need to point out that since beginning and almost every time I switched from XMB to the game itself I'd get a kind of gray screen for a couple of seconds (like if the TV itself was trying to establish connection with the HDMI or some sort of...) then the game video would pop up as expected. I don't know if that gray screen is normal though.

My personal theory/conclusion is that there's a type of incompatibility between the Psyclone-HDMI cable and my Samsgun LCD model...
