Default Do you own a Japanese Blu-ray player?

I understand that Blu-ray players are already available in Japan. Has anyone in these forums brought one into the U.S. Tell us what it is like.

Mmm... I don't think there will be anyone on this forum who bought a BD player or a recorder in the US or elsewhere as they probably know that they will not be able to play / record movies (broadcasted in the US or elsewhere). (Thats what I think is true, its all about the standards and regios etc isn't it?)

.. Just my thought

Actually the Japanese Blu-ray players will work in other countries. It includes a firewire port which makes it compatable with some U.S. STBs. My LG HD DVR has two firewire ports which would make recording local HDTV programs onto disc a breeze. I've read elsewhere that even though the Japanese recorder is in another language that the menu is very easy to figure out. So apparently someone in the States has one of these babies but isn't a member of this forum. Anyway, like stated above, the Japanese recorder's discs are nothing like what will eventually become the Blu-ray standard so unless someone is impatient and wants to record a lot of OTA HD then it makes much more sense to wait for the Blu-ray recorders which will start coming out late this year.
