PS3 Swiss Army Knife

Will be going to Florida in a few weeks and plan to stock up on some DB titles while I'm out there.

I've checked the http://bluray.lindsite.dk/ site for compatibility, but if worst comes to the worst I intend on ripping via Linux or Swiss Army Knife to HD and then playing back.

Question is: does the region check occur within the Sony OS or is it inherent to the drive/PS3 itself?

A “DVD Region Lock” is technology on DVD players that prevents those who live in one region from successfully viewing a DVD movie that was produced and distributed for a different region. Although you could purchase a DVD movie in the United States and mail it to someone in China ten months before the DVD is released there, the DVD will not play on the recipient's Region 6 DVD player.

I assume that it works the same for Blu-ray. It'd be the player.
