Yo Guys,
I've been using Zip.ca for a year now, and it's super cheap and its super excellent for Blu-Rays. I love it. Anyway, I've been looking across the web to see if any competitors had popped up... and I noticed this website... http://www.dvdlink.ca/ First of all, they offer PS3 games and Blu-Rays under one package, so that's sweet. Considering that... the prices of their packages are superb. $25 a month for 4 DVDs/Games/Blu-rays out at a time... Sounds yummy... Now the iffy part, I can't seem to find ANYTHING, anywhere about this website? There's hardly any chatter about it apart from this... which is kind of dodgy as "Dvdlinks.ca Site Admin" popped up in the middle of the thread :s http://onlinedvdrentalguide.ca/forum...pic.php?t=1483 I mean... it seems legit, it seems up to date... and they have a free two week trial. Sucks that they are in BC, because I'm all the way in Hamilton, but I wouldn't mind paying $25 for having 4 games and/or movies sitting around. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone out there has actually heard of this website or even tried it out? Any feedback, muchos gracias. Peace. |

Well I emailed them and this is the reponse I got:
Aslam, Thanks for contacting DVDLink.ca service desk to inquire about our service. We are new in this business as we opened our doors to online public around 6 months ago. That is one of the main reason we don't have enough information online. We are based in Vancouver and use Canada Post for delivery. Majority of our members are from East. On average it takes any where from 2-3 business days. If you are in remote area then add additional 1 extra day. Once you receive these disks and send them back to us all you need to do is to click on "return disk" link from your queue and we send next available disk from our queue without waiting for your delivery back in our warehouse. In other words return disk time is ZERO. We have over 18,000 titles for movies and 1,300+ for games. Currently we offer PS3, Xbox360 and Wii games only. If in any case you don't find a movie/game that you want to rent you can request it from your queue and we make it available within 2 weeks. Please contact back if there is anything I may have missed to answer. All we can suggest is to trial our 2 weeks trial and we promise you will not be disappointed. Note: some information about our service can be located in this forum: http://onlinedvdrentalguide.ca/ Thanks Gordon McPhee Service Desk Rep www.dvdlink.ca |

I've only heard of zip.ca & cinemail.ca(based out of Winnipeg). Cinemail wasn't into the Blu-rays yet last summer... so they may not have changed. Zip.ca I used for 2 months & man that was a pathetic service IMO, so I'll never be going back. Its probably good for soime, but the whole 1 'zip return' item at a time really pissed me off. Lucky if I got 3 movies a week.

Yeah I've actually just noticed that 1 zip return at a time thingy...
Most of the time I've been on the one-movie out at a time plan so with that it works out just fine. Couple of times I've upgraded to two-movies out and it's been kind of pointless. Their delivery times for me are excellent, 2 days flat so compared to canflix.com and gameaccess.ca, this has been the rental service of choice for me... However Zip doesn't have PS3 games... and that sucks. DVDlinks looks promising, but extremely dodgy right about now. Maybe I should just tone the Zip.ca back down to the 1-disc plan, and sign up for that blockbuster $20 a month game rental plan... Convenience with that is that I won't end up getting B.S. games like gameaccess use to send me... and no shipping/waiting times obviously. |

Gameaccess might be a good option for you if you're in montreal since they ship from around there... My issues with them: 1) The shipping times to hamilton were just awful. I sometimes went a week plus without a game in hand... unacceptable. 2) The prices are kind of gay, you'll pay $17 for 1 game out at a time... but that is pure bare bones... cu you gotta pay $2 for "reserve a game" feature.... more on that in a bit.... and pay i think $4 for "fast return".... fast return should be free, its pathetic that they make you pay. it makes turnaround times twice as long. Zip.ca, canflix... most of the other websites Ive seen have an option where you "tick" that you've returned the disc... so then they will send you your next disc without having to wait till they receive your old one. 3) Games that you get.... most of the times i got utter shit. i dont know about you bro but i dont play thaaaaat many games, theres just a specific few that i want to play from time to time. Blockbuster would be great but now i HATE that the rentals are only a week long. I tried the reserve a game feature, but its so annoying. I had to wait an extra week, just so they would ship to me the game i actually wanted. Not worth it at all. If only we had gamefly ![]() |

I encourage some folks to drop a line to cinemail.ca (https://www.cinemail.ca/contact_us_form.cfm) & ask when they plan on incorporating blu-rays into their plans. I just sent a message, but I'm sure if more & more do so, they may commence soon enough. Seriously, this was an excellent service for standard DVDs (no games tho).

If anyone ends up trying DVDlink please post your feedback (or feel free to shoot me a private message) with your feedback.
Since they are located on the west coast and offer games, I've been considering them. Currently using RogersVideoDirect (same as zip) and they have a Vancouver office, so returns and shipments are often pretty quick anyway, but it would be nice to have games too. Canflix was just too slow for me since they shipped everything out of Alberta (I think) and I had to ship everything back there too of course. |

+1 I had a zip.ca membership a while back, i had the "Unlimited" option, was that 3 at a time? I was lucky if I rented more than 6 per month. I would watch my movies right away, return 'em the next day. check off the "return" disc thing in my account, wait 1 week, then boom, 3 more. WTF? that's too slow man! I emailed to complain, for the next month they gave me 4 at a time? it didn't change a thing, i canceled the service. |

I think a really important consideration when picking your mail-in rental company is the location of their warehouses.
Zip has a Toronto warehouse, and if I have a Zip Refill available it often happens that I have my replacement movie the next day, provided I check it as having been returned in the morning. If I don't have a Zip Refill available it takes a 2-3 days. Meaning if I send a movie back on Monday morning, I have the replacement on Wednesday or Thursday. When it comes to non-refill returns it's best to send your movie back either at the post office or via a mail box that has early morning pickup. Anyway, I've been a Zip member for five years and it works really well for me. And with the recent upgrades to how the Zip list works, it's even better. According to the FAQ on their site they're also working on a Netflix-like streaming solution, so that'll be awesome too. |
