Default Can you suggest a pair of bookshelf speakers for music?

I am planning to buy either one of the following system (any advice?):
1. Cambridge Audio Azur 640C & 640A
or
2. NAD 525 BEE + NAD C325BEE Integrated Amplifier

Personally I prefer a pair of bookshelf speakers (made in England), used or new. Budget for $600 CDN. This is for my basement home office, and there is a little restriction in the placement of speakers.

Any comments?

I would look into auditioning first.

But as far as bookshelves less than 600 dollars and made in England, I would highly recommend these.

I am sure you can find something from the B&W 600 series in that range as well.

How about a pair of Totem Mites (made in Canada) and a very muscial speaker. I have a pair of mint condition ones (Mahogany finish) that I am willing to part with!

John

PS: Why British loudspeakers?

Don't discriminate...... open your arms to speakers from around the world..... Besides... the B&W 600's mentioned previously are made in China so I'm not sure how "British" you're gonna get

Monitor Audio makes nice speakers though too.

A little over your $600 - MSRP 479/ea but you could probably get it close to $800 for the pair. Perfect size for a basement home office. Not made in England but all made right here in Canada.

PSB Alpha or Image series speakers are highly rated, small, and inexpensive. PSB is another exampe of a great Canadian speaker company. They also manufacture much more expensive speakers.

Go with the Cambridge setup in my opinion, see if you can find a pair of QUAD 11L2's.

Here's a pair on the 'Gon:

In Cherry on Canuck Audio Mart for 699.00 CAD:

You can get Tannoy or KEFs but I'd personally go with Focals(although they're French made). GMost likely the Tannoys and Kefs are made in china as well.

Or you can always go with Dynaudio(DANES DON"T LIE)

You can these for $599 in black or a bit more in Beach or Cherry. Very smooth, clean, natural sounding speakers with a good frequency range for a book shelf speaker.

If you don't mind used - jump on these http://cgi.ebay.com/SNELL-AUDIO-NOTE...3286.m63.l1177

They are actually the Snell K series - (I have the E series).
You could also go with the Audio Note AN-K or the Audio Note AX-2.
If you can - I would also try the Swan 2.1 or any of the great Dynaudio bookshelves or just keep it in the fam and try John's Totems !!!

I know there is a Big Fat SOLD sign, but a set of Paradigm Studio 20's would be very nice, especially at this price.

http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls....Reference-20-v

or these Paradigm S2's
http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls....oni&1247416922

Last edited by got rice; 05-19-2009 at 05:59 PM. Reason: added the s2's
