Default Hopkins set to return as Hannibal Lector

This is the best news I've heard all day

From WENN (via IMDb):
Quote:
Hopkins To Feast As Hannibal Again

15 May 2009 5:00 AM, PDT

Sir Anthony Hopkins is teaming up with director Sir Ridley Scott to bring his most infamous villain Hannibal Lecter back to the big screen.

The actor will reprise his cannibalistic serial killer for the fourth time in a second sequel to the 1991 hit film The Silence of the Lambs, for which he won a Best Actor Oscar.

Hopkins also appeared in 2001's Hannibal before starring in the 2002 prequel Red Dragon.

And actress Cate Blanchett has been tipped to take over the role of Clarice Starling after Jodie Foster pulled out to direct Claire Danes in the forthcoming Flora Plum.

A spokesperson for film-makers Universal says, "Hopkins and Scott are both very committed. We like what we've got, and the revised script is really, really good."
Yeah, it probably won't be anything like The Silence of the Lambs, but just just seeing Anthony Hopkins in that role again is worth the price of admission. He was easily the best part of Hannibal and the best part of Red Dragon, too.

Let's hope it gets fast-tracked.

I'm not so excited about this one. Hopkins is getting up there in age. I'm not sure how a feeble, old Hannibal is going to come across in a movie. I already started noticing this change in Red Dragon.

I'm not so sure another film is needed yet it can't be anywhere as bad as Hannibal Rising. Even if the rest of the movie sucks, I'm sure Hopkin's scenes will be fascinating.

wow.......wow........this is very interesting news indeed. but i'm not 100% sure how i feel about this. despite the great cast/director involved, i'm tired of them switching clarices, not to mention ridley scott's last outing has been toted as the worst of the lecter trilogy by critics (not including rising), though critics are not the judge of everyone of course

also...doesnt ridley have like 5032402 other projects to do first?

I think Silence of the Lambs showed how effective minimizing the role is, though. I think one of the faults of the other Hopkins films was that there was too much of a"sandbox" for Lecter. Relegating him to short scenes or to some sort of self-imposed confinement would be interesting.

Hopkins IS a great actor but enough with the Hannibal Lector thing, the best two films w/ the Hannibal character were Manhunter(w/the underated Brian Cox as Lector) and the classic Silence Of The Lambs!

I think this series and character have done all they can with it--

Hannibal shouldn't be like a Jason franchise

Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal were very sick movies (except Red Dragon). If I were Ridley Scott, I would tone up the cannibalism and violence along with a good storyline to make the previous ones look like a rated g movie.

Scott can do it. The "brain scene" with Liotta in Hannibal was pretty intense. Ridley did Gladiator and KOH...he can make the next installment gruesome and I hope he does.

Nobody goes to see the movies for Clarice. It's all about Hopkins as Lector.

I love all the films except Rising, and look forward to a new chapter.

Sounds interesting as Hannibal was a great film. One of my all time favorites and IMO better then Silence of the Lambs. I do wish Julianne Moore would return to play Starling though, but maybe Blanchett will be good.
