Default LG or Sony BR burner?

Am a newbie with HD. Last summer I bought this system:

Dell 530 w/Q6600, ATI 2600XT, RAID drive for video, Firewire card, 1920 x 1080 monitor

Windows XP

Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0 (build 55)

HD source: Canon HV30

I have been able to download HDV from tape, edit, and make a second tape.
Now I'd like to burn BD-R disks compatible with most or all players. Have been watching price on the BWU-300S for some months, but it doesn't seem to be coming down. But have also read that the GGW-H20LK, at half the price, has been doing well for people.

What opinions can you give whether the LG would be a safe buy? Is there another drive I should consider?

Also: what SW should I add to view fullscreen HD from disk, tape, BD drive, etc. or to aid in editing? I see Nero and PowerDVD mentioned frequently.
If I understand correctly, my Vegas Plat 9.0 can burn BD's OK.

Thanks

Hal

Your thread has nothing to do with me. I shoot original videos mostly of trains or model trains and I plan to keep the edited versions on BD.

I have the LG BH08LS20 and it is a fantastic burner. I have a constant need to backup projects that are all around 50G so I needed something better then to just keep buying hard drives.

I use Nero for back up and for output of HD video, (Im an FX artist and Editor not ripping anything) I tend to use Adobe Encore. But IM sure you can find something to get your HD vids to play out on your TV. I would also look into the WD TV player. You could put all your HD train videos on 1 drive and hook it up to the WD TV and there you have it, HD without the burning process and without the expensive back up discs.

Thanks Rob. I read thru some tests on that drive, and it sounds good. Looking now for source/price.

I also have an LG and it works beautifully.

Just offering another data point.

I ordered the LG , but the source was out of media.

In looking for 25 GB BD-R's, I found the cheapest to be Phillips at about $3,
Optical Q at $3.50, followed by Ritek and TDK at about $4.50. Anyone have
bad experiences with any of these?

Thanks for your inputs.
