Question about DVD/Blu-ray reviews sites

Hello,
since I'm personally interested to do it one for my country I've always wondered what's "the secret" beyond it.

The possibilities according to me are:

1) you have to be VERY rich. It's impossible to buy hundreds (or thousands?) of titles every month to review them.

2) you receive samples from studios in exchange of reviewing them and so produce some kind of free-promotion.

There are a lot of sites I'm referring to, like this site , dvdbeaver, cinemasquid ect. that have also bitrates detailed so they must own the disc to that.
