Default BD Player + Storage Does this exist?

Every heard of a BD Player with built in (or attached) storage? I don't want yet another CPU/GPU in my possesion; I really don't want a full blown MC either.

I can envision a BD player that would also copy and store my DVDs and BD onto some storage (attached or internal), for later replay. I get all the benefits of the dedicated BD player with an extensive stored library.

The goal is to put the DVDs and BDs, that I already own, into the closet, but have them at the ready (elextronically) for playback on my BD player.

Thanks in advance.

Outside of digital copies, dunno how you're going to get your bd's ripped at the current time. The only player that I know of that can have the kind of storage you're talking about is the PS3, as it can easily swap out the internal HD or add external HD storage. The other players that I know of have very minimal storage for BD-Java and BD-Live features.

The only external storage available is through the PS3 or the minor 1 GB that the S550/560 offers for BD-Live capabilities. BD's arent intended to be ripped easily so we may never see that anytime soon(but we all know it can be done)

Yeah, I don't think this is available yet. Blu-ray.com forum member robinandtami has been talking about wanting a device like this for some time. It seems like it'd make a lot of sense, especially for those who have high-end(ish) HTPCs hooked up to their HDTVs that are capable of producing a proper Blu-ray signal (both in video and audio).

It seems to me that a computer with a Blu-ray drive is closer to doing something like this in the near future than a dedicated Blu-ray standalone is. All it'd take for a computer to do it would be proper ripping software and relatively high-end components; whereas a Blu-ray standalone would require a completely industry-shaking change in paradigm.

$3500!? Seems like a little techno know how, a spare disc changer and a $100 for a 500GB HD and voila! Maybe not as simple as it sounds, but 3500? lol
But back on topic: Seriously consider putting a 500 gig or even a 1 TB soon enough into a PS3.

Thanks for the feedback. The PS3 in intriguing; however, looks like I have to run Unix on it to use the storage capability for BD content. OK for me, but too complex for the rest of the household.
