This issue is getting to me. Every studio, cloud based digital library, and retailer services have their own thing going on. For digital libraries we have Ultra Violet and Movies Anywhere (formerly Disney Movies Anywhere). For retailers, we have Itunes, Vudu, FandangoNow, Google Play, Amazon. There's so much mess out in the industry about redeeming digital copies, specially those with 4K UHDs, because when you do so you may end up with a cheaper HD version of the movie during playback with your retailer service. Until they fix this mess, i hope we can at least attempt to come up with a list of where the customers should redeem their digital copies so they can watch them in 4K UHD. I for one have found myself having to contact the studio, retailer, or digital libraries customer service for them to unlock the 4K version. It's really frustrating.
Note: There's only 3 major UHD Streaming Services that syncs with Ultraviolet, they are: Vudu, FandangoNow, and Sony's Ultra. MoviesAnywhere syncs with Itunes, Vudu, Google Play, and Amazon Video Update: Ultraviolet is shutting down on July 31, 2019 Edit: Big thanks to mysticwaterfall for sharing and to Ashley L and Zhobbs for maintaining this list: Post 3 Post to iTunes 4K HDR Titles Last edited by mrjr101; 02-02-2019 at 05:36 PM. |

It's not that complicated to redeem copies...
Sites with owners in parentheses: iTunes (Apple) Vudu (Wal-Mart) Movies Anywhere (Disney) These are the major players. I find it easier to watch when traveling with Vudu so most of my copies are housed here. If you sign on to Sony or one of the studio sites, they will take your info and re-direct you to one of the above anyway. It's my experience with Vudu, most new releases are UHD whether you buy the 4K version or the Blu-ray....it will be identified with a tab at the top of the movie art saving UHD |

I have no idea where to go or how to redeem, please don't hate me. I have about 15 4kblus, all with their digital codes, and now im considering redeeming.
I need help in how to redeem? Would i goto the , for example, vudu.com, and create a profile and just insert code? Also, is there away to ensure i get 4k and not HDX? I downloaded Movies Anywhere, if it helps. Any suggestion would help |

I personally try to go the iTunes route if I can (need a 4K Apple TV though). You'll have to check each movie individually in the spreadsheet. Some movies just currently have no possible way to get a 4K redemption anywhere, but it's getting better. With the Movies Anywhere service and Apple's growing 4K library, there are a lot more options now than just even a few months ago. |

If the code is from a Sony 4k then a direct redeem on MA will give you the 4K version of the movie on iTunes if it is available

I use the spreadsheet too, however there can still be some confusion on what is the best option to get the "most" out of your digital rights. It all boils down to the studio that released the film as to what service you should use. I made this list in another thread:

It's a complete crapshoot for me. For example, I recently redeemed both Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2 on Vudu and I got UHD for the original and HDX for the sequel. Fantastic Beasts redeemed in 4K; Harry Potter Collection in HDX. Sometimes a movie I already own in HDX will upgrade to UHD when I enter the code that came with the 4k version, sometimes it does not.

I'm curious about this Sony part: "Redeeming UHD codes on Sony Picture's website, FandangoNOW, or Vudu will only give you 4K rights in iTunes if the title is available in UHD on Vudu (only a couple titles so far)." Would Spider-Man Homecoming be in this group? It's available in UHD on Vudu. I noticed mine (redeemed directly through Sony Pictures) is only HDX at Vudu (and therefore also HD at iTunes). I'm not sure if I should try to contact Sony if the above statement is true. |

On a different note, Universal has pretty much abandoned UHD on Vudu, actually if you register titles through their redeeming service, Vudu isn’t even an option to choose anymore. (BTW, if a studio has their own portal link Sony, Paramount and Universal, I’d advise always using them to guarantee full digital copy access. Doing so keeps a record that you have access to UHD formats, even if a provider doesn’t offer it.) Fitprod |

You guys are amazing for keeping this convo going. Threads like these is what we need during messy times in the war for digital copy standards. I myself am SOL, I redeemed most of my 4K's in Vudu synced to UV and only about 1/3 of them are in the right UHD format. Now i'm noticing iTunes is expanding and allowing more titles in 4K than the others but iTunes is in the MA side of the world. You can only redeem the codes in one platform and i need to decide wether to start redeeming in MA/iTunes or to stick to Vudu/UV until the dust settles!

I have never redeemed one of my codes for a couple of reasons. Didn’t know exactly what the heck to do with them and thought I would keep them with the movie for resell.
I never travel. What is the reason many of you like the digital copies? Travel and __? Thanks |
