Default The BEST Video Quality Blu-ray Megathread

I'm having a friend who is an HD-DVD fan over to my home theater tinght to watch some movies on my front projection system.

I currently own The Descent, Black Hawk Down, Ice AGe 2. What are THE best looking BD titles? I might pick them up even if I'm not crazy about the movie, to use as demo material.
My system pictures

I'm in Toronto, where not a single outlet has received Crank yet... stupid buggers, but I understand it is A-1. Out of the 12 I've seen on my own display... Kingdom of Heaven is the best.

Swordfish is the best I've seen.

And I've seen Kingdom of Heaven, Tears of the Sun, Mission Impossible 1-3, Monster House to name a few.

Kingdom of Heaven, I am told that Black Hawk Down is awesome, but it isn't out here in the UK yet.

Kingdom of Heaven is sweet. Black Hawk Down is up there, but not AS good. I think Lord of War looks amazing.

I just saw "Tears of the sun" last night and it looks fantastic (sounds good too). Go with that or Mission Impossible III

As BIGSAPOTEER mentioned above.

Tears of the Sun <---- best Blu-ray movie using the SL 25GB/MPEG-2 combo.

I think it's still the best SL25/MPEG-2 movie, correct? (inform me if this is not true anymore).

That movie alone shows you that you can produce superb image quality (and I mean D-VHS level of quality) despite the contrainsts of using bandwith-hungry MPEG-2 and the lower-end SL 25GB.

Despite these limitations, many people raved about it from HidefDigest and even on AVS forums for its quality on a basic-end package (Single layer 25GB/MPEG-2).

That alone says it all

Kingdom of Heaven
The Descent
Black Hawk Down
The Corpse Bride
Swordfish
and, I haven't seen it myself, but The Covenant has gotten rave reviews for picture quality.

A really good looking older movie is The Searchers. I was absolutely floored by the clarity and beauty of the outdoor scenes. It got 5 stars for video quality from Hi-Def Digest. Another cool thing about it is being one of the very few people in the world to view the movie in hi-def in the 50 years of the films existence. Also, the movie itself isn't bad, being the inspiration for big directors like Spielberg, etc.

Yes i aggree with you ,The problem at first was in the bug picture noise of Samsung Player and BD-25 of Fifth element.
I urge you all to have a look on DVDfile.com, Old titles and new titles have been reviewed there on BDP_S1 sony player, most of them are getting higher points for PQ and Sound Quality.

concerning your question here Sure tears of the sun is one of the best title done on BD-25 including ULTRAVIOLET

Swat,Into the Blue,stealth,Ice age the meltdown,underworld evolution,ect..
All of them are using MPEG-2
Just about MPEG2 a quote from Swat review "Even though Sony is embracing MPEG-4 transfers in 2007, presentations like this one make clear that excellent results may be obtained with MPEG-2, even on a single-layer disc"

Regards,
a

I forgot to mention also Ghost in the Shell: Innoncence, but of course that's only available as an import from Japan. It is the best looking Anime title I have ever seen, and the discreet 7.1 uncompressed PCM soundtrack sounds great too.

Absolutely. Even animation on SD DVD can have artifacts and so on. On the Innocence BD I see no jagged edges, no marching ants in the dark colours, the digital animations have more pop and gloss - there's a HUGE benefit, believe me. Plus, this title is somewhat of a 'superbit' title, really. The Mpeg-2 encoding bitrate averages around something like 36 Mb/s with peaks around 40 Mb/s, so this title is really tweaked for the maximum Blu-ray bandwidth.

The Great Raid is another movies that is very good to show off Blu Ray. I've shown it to people who were impressed by the detail that can be seen in the outdoor scenes.
