I didn't finish the first season of Rome. Now I guess I really should finish the series, just so I've given it a more fair chance and to know that I did.
Anyway. I mostly only say this because "think Rome, but with fantasy elements sprinkled throughout" feels so amusingly quaint in hindsight.

I think that holds true for the later
GOT seasons, after the show exploded in profits and production value (I’m guessing post-Red Wedding), but Season 1 of
GOT feels very similar to
Rome. It’s partly why I got into the show around the time it premiered (was looking forward to a good follow-up to
Rome). Even the battle sequences through S2 I remember looked exactly like
Rome’s in their low-budget effects and presentation.
