While I agree with you, when it comes to Best Buy it would have been work to "do the right thing." Best Buy has no mechanism to remedy the situation and trying to speak to a rep about it and get them to understand would be a herculean effort. I've been in the same boat since there was a lengthy period where they were always sending out cancelled orders (probably the same period of the mentioned HP steelbook set). I tried returning the first ones I received to the store, but they had no mechanism to transact them (can't return against a cancelled order) and the customer service person did not care. I was totally up front about what happened and was told to keep them.
Online there would be no return options available. I can't even imagine the amount of effort it would take to get a customer service rep to provide a pre-paid return label for a cancelled order.
