Default RAID with PS3?

Does anyone think it would be possible to create an external bay that would have a RAID (0,1,5, or 10) that could be hooked up to the PS3's internal SATA connection that the PS3 would accept as ONE drive?

Bro and I were conjuring up some idea to potentially make the PS3's capacity in the TB category with redundancy

Aren't there RAID controllers which are made to be "transparent"? If so, that should work.

About 2 months after the PS3 was launched in Japan, modders there made a 1TB PS3 using RAID drives with eSATA connection.

HOWEVER, the last two firmware updates have disabled the ability to have more than 500GB HDDs. So before you invest in external RAIDs, try connecting 1 TB using the SATA cable and see if it works. I'd be interested in hooking up a 1 TB 3.5" HDD too.

Thanks for that info WriteSimply. Wonder why Sony cut off the HD size to 500gbs?

Have you confirmed this? Didn't hear about any size limitations being put in the firmware notes?

Confirmation made on a few forums. I didn't track the link but it was after an update. I don't have a spare SATA drive and eSATA cables (you need male-to-female SATA cable) to try it with with the current firmware.
