Smile My Samsung is TOO BIG

Hey guys

We had a Sumsung 42" upstairs, but we just bought a 48"(or 46" cant remember) and moved the 42" downstairs.

The problem is the room is so small. I am sitting up close to the TV and it gives me a headache after about an hour of watching. The way the room is designed, there's really no way to sit further back away from the TV.

Would getting a smaller TV, maybe a 32", help with this problem? I never had this issue with SDTV's as I could watch for hours and hours and feel fine. I told my friends that I want to replace my 42" with a smaller TV and they think I'm crazy.

what 32" HDTV would you recommend and will it be easier on the eyes?

If most of tv watching is being done at night, I would suggest turning down the backlighting and contrast. The tv sounds like its just too bright which can cause eye fatigue and headaches.

Yes, turn down the backlight to about 4 or 5, contrast settle it about 80-90, and brightness down to 40-50 and you should be OK.

Otherwise send it to me and I will send you mine

Or get some ambient lighting behind the set. I think that would help you greatly.

Doesn't even have to be behind the set. A soft 60watt bulb would go a long way towards preventing eyestrain. I have our lamp behind/to the side of us so it's all indirect lighting and it really makes a large difference.

Exactly how close are you sitting? I sit 8-10 feet from my 61" and even though this is right in the thx recommended ballpark, i can sometimes get eyestrain if i'm watching for long periods in a completely dark room. Especially if the content is really bright.

You could always put your overhead light on a dimmer and go with a soft 60 watt bulb like aramis suggested.
