Default Seller accidently ships htr 6260(v665), not 6160(v663.) Keep or return?

Hi Everyone,

Really wanted to get some input on this: I bought a new 6160 (v663) but the seller sent a 6260 (v665.) I have not heard either of these receivers, but from what I have read the 6160 has a higher quality amp section.

I only have 2 components with HDMI (PS3 and a Philips DVD player), also will be connecting an Xbox1(component+opt.), and a Digital TV Converter box (rca jacks).

I have a set of new Energy Take Classic 5.1s waiting to be plugged in, and I am very tempted to just keep the newer Yamaha, but if the 6160 sounds better I want to have that instead.

The seller's written ebay policy is to cover all shipping costs when the wrong item is sent, so there won't be anything more out of pocket.

My listening habits are about 70% music, 30% movies. What do you guys think? Anybody actually been able to compare them both?
THANKS!!!

The fact that you do not know what to do is already showing a lack of moral compass.

I recommend contacting the seller and see what he wants to do. He may not want to go to the trouble and expense of paying to have that one shipped back and shipping you another unit. You never know what might happen. If he doesn't mind you keeping the one you got, then you got a free upgrade. However, if you're sure you would rather have the 6160 then be firm and explain that to him as well.

Wow, I didn't think this choice had anything to do with morality. Ok, I repent of my audio immorality.

...I feel so clean now.

I don't expect a better answer than that one.

Do some research first and see which unit you would prefer to have regardless of price and work from there.

If its an upgrade I would keep it, their mistake and I would still sleep soundly at night.

That's the thing that I wonder about-would it really be an upgrade? From what I've read the ONLY positive would be gaining the additional HDMI inputs. That's why I was hoping to hear from someone who has heard both units.

I suppose I could get off my lazy a** and audition the newer model at the nearest reseller and see what I think, but just reading about the lesser quality of materials makes me think I'd regret keeping the 6260.

Anyway, thanks for the input.

So the next time You mistakenly give someone extra money, of course they should keep it regardless of the amount. That's cool.

Well, I believe the sleep would be sweeter if I gave back the extra money.

I would have contacted them about this either way. Now I wait for them to contact me.

Seriously, what? You're ready to condemn someone for asking a question? It's more than likely that the shipper ran out of stock on the 663 and went ahead and shipped the 665. As mentioned, just contact the seller.

Sheesh, people get so high and mighty over a simple question.

Yeah, I think my thread title was misunderstood.

I wasn't asking a moral question.

I have no idea why they sent the 6260, nor do I care, I just wanted some opinions about the 2 different models. My assumption was that the company would much rather have me just keep this one than ship another package from NY to California.

Very interesting how this veered into a morality lesson. I was merely looking for some opinions about the hardware.

Funny.

+1 agreed! Let's not automatically condemn the OP...there might be a morality lesson somewhere in that. Oh wait! here it is... "Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged."

Just got this from the seller:
Quote:
Hi-

First allow us to apologize for the confusion. While it may seem that the wrong item was shipped, in actually we sent you the upgraded model at no extra charge. The 6160 was discontinued and replaced by the 6260. We are very sorry for any inconvenience that may have been caused. Are you sure you want to return the unit?
NO! I AM NOT SURE!!! Ha ha! I wish I could hear both units and really compare them. The biggest issue for me is the inconvenience of shipping back and waiting for to get my refund before I can order the other unit. (The 6160s are not that easy to find anymore though!)

The comment in question was not directed at the OP, but rather was a response to the comment below:

He seems to be indicating he would take advantage of a mistake on the part of the seller and not say anything.

Well at least now you know what happened. It would have been nice to be notified of the "free upgrade" prior to them shipping the unit though.

They're both fairly common entry level AVRs..... I'm not sure of the components used in each, but I'm guessing they sound very similar, and you may not be able to tell the difference in them..... I'd just contact the seller, and tell them you'll just keep what they sent you.

That's just me though.

I agree, I believe if its not the product advertised, there should be some form of communication as what he felt was an upgrade may not be in your eyes. Id say mail it back but they arent required to refund the return shipping so thats about 20-25 you would be out. SO I would just keep it and voice your displeasure via feedback
