I just got this through the post from Play.com and it has the slipcover. But the cellophane is that tight resealed type cellophane and not the lose cellophane with "blu-ray" written around it. Is this how it is for all copies of this blu-ray film or have I received yet another used and resealed copy from Play? The condition of the slipcover and case itself seem fine though so I'm just curious.

My copy (bought from another store) was also wrapped in that cheap cellophane.
Since the two other recent Universal titles I purchased (Hot Fuzz and Shawn of the Dead) were also like that, it seems Universal is now using this type of cellophane to seal their BD releases. Slightly related to that, I received a BD from Play in that cheap cellophane that is very clearly a used copy, full of fingerprints and scratches. Guess what's their solution for this: they simply ignore my messages... ![]() Why do some stores insist on selling used items as new? |

Thanks Funktion. I guess if they are starting to use that type of cellophane then fair enough, I just assumed they used the other type for all blu-rays. It just looks cheap and tacky and I hate it.
And yeah, I received King Kong from Play.com yesterday, and it was the same, marks all over it, even a crack on the side of the case! I looked at the returns policy and apparently to send items back they have to still be in the wrapping, so from now on if it happens again and it looks dirty/damaged I'll leave it and send it back. Infact I'm gonna use Ebay for my older blu-rays I want and just use Retail shops for pre-ordering, seems the only way to guarantee a brand new blu-ray ![]() |

I find this thread interesting, as I bought the original digi-pack with book BD of Close Encounters of the Third Kind from Play.com last year, and was sent a battered unshrinkwapped copy, covered in fingerprints. It was clearly one somebody had returned.
To say I was angry at play's nerve at sending me this is to be an understatment. I complained to them, and threatened to infomr Trading Standards, and they had sent me a (presumably faulty) second hand copy when I had paid for a brand new one. They sent me a replacement, which was this time thankfully still sealed. Seems I'm not the only one to have problems with them. |

It's not only Play.com though, hmv, and zavvi also do this, I've got 7 blu-rays that have been like this that I'm gonna have to sell off. I've never got an unwrapped blu-ray yet though so that's unusual.
On another note, my copy of Drag Me To Hell also had this cheap cellophane wrapped around in, guess we'll be seeing more of it ![]() |

The only problem I've had with play.com is delivery times.Sometimes it takes several weeks for it to arrive
![]() As long as it is in pristine condition,it doesn't much matter if it has been used before. Live in Norway,so using the english store of play.com. |

Unfortunately, like it's been said, it's not just Play. If you buy today an older BD release (2008 or older) online, you have a big chance that it will be a re-sealed product in not very good shape. I only purchased a BD player last Christmas, I've been trying to purchase older releases that I want in my collection, and sadly I've been wasting money (be it with the purchase, or having to return the BDs for a replacement later) because time after time I receive products that were previously used (and not in decent shape either, most I receive end up being full of scratches and fingerprints, and as you may have noticed it's not very easy to scratch a BD, unlike a DVD).
It has happened to me with DVD.co.uk (numerous times; they are my main store when it comes to UK BD releases, but I try to avoid them for older releases, most of the times I received non-sealed copies that look like someone cleaned the floor with them... ![]() But for me Play was the worse offender because while everyone else replaced my clearly used copies for new copies (some even said not to bother returning the used copies), Play simply ignored my messages for 3 weeks, and now that the time they allow for returns has passed the contact option vanished from the order, so effectively I can't further contact them about this order. Calling them to the phone number on their website is not an option, because I'm from outside of the UK, and would probably end up paying more for the call than for a new BD disc. These stores should provide better service to their customers, this is effectively lying to their customers (not to call it straight rip-off). In a time everyone is worried about piracy, as a guy who actually pays for everything I own (be it music, films or games) I find it ironic that I always end up being treated as if they are doing me a favor for selling me something, and not the other way around. |
