Default Just bought a Pioneer 50" Kuro PDP5010FD

After buying one for my parents a few months back for a little over $1,500 and change I finally bought one for myself. After using the break-in DVD and using D-Nice's calibration settings, the picture looks awesome so I had to have one for my home before they are all gone. Purchased the plasma over at Sam's Club auctions for $1,051. After wathing the auction throughout the week they all have been selling for a little over $1,300. You have to be a member to make a purchase on their site. You can sign up for a membership and also cancel it and get your money back if you do not wish to continue with the membership. Total breakdown of purchase:

Cost of the plasma: $1051
Shipping: $186.23
Tax: $74.23

Total: $1,311.46

The auctions can be found here.

Are these Kuros brand new in box? Or are they refurbished?

Very interested in these.

Sam's has been auctioning off these for a good while. If you are patient you can get a good deal on one. $1300 is pretty good since the only other comparable quality TV that can be had around that price would be a Panasonic G10 or G15 and I'd take the 5010FD over either of those personally.

These are brand new in the box. My parents bought the last one in the store and they said they were auctioning the rest of them off.

Nice.

I haven't seen one tv that comes anywhere close to the level of blacks that these baby's can put out.

To me, these are, hands down, the best TVs available.

Damn, I need one bad.

how do these compare to the 500m? Is it worth saving up $400 more to get the newer one? thanks.

I'm not sure the 500M will be available by then. They seem to be selling out quickly now and many of the retailers I've seen are raising their prices considerably. I saw one seller raise their price about $600 from one day to the next...

The KRP-500M is better, but the prices are going up fast as they become more scarce. They are going for around $2500 on Ebay right now. If you can get a 5010FD for around $1500 its a no-brainer. You won't gain enough performance IMO to justify a $1000 difference for the same size set. The 5010FD is still better than the majority of TV's out there.

I bought my parents one of these via Sam's back in April for sub $1,500 delivered.

It has a fantastic picture! The speakers are much better than typical TV speakers as well.

For their needs it was better than a monitor only with no tuner and no speakers.

I bought one of these from Sam's when they still had them in the store, $1500. It has awesome picture quality! I'm still amazed by the PQ even after having it for 6 months!

I've had a 5010 for about 2 years now and still feel its picture is better than anything I have seen out there, besides the more modern Kuros. This monitor has more adjustments than the newer 5020 and after a calibration, its picture is fantastic. I have not noticed any noticable difference in black levels on the different Kuro models, they all have a deep shadow detail that is unmatched. Any Kuro you find for a great price is a steal.

I definitely want one of these and hope to purchase one by the end of next week. I was checking the Sams auction though and the 'popcorn' bidding would drive me mad.

still I might just try my hand at that depending on what sony decides to do about my busted TV =( should know something by the end of the day Monday.

Default Break in help please...

Just got my beautiful Kuro! Now it's set up in a corner, ready for break in mode. My question is this.

I have the break in disc, and also on a memory stick. I'd prefer to use the memory stick rather than run a DVD player for a hundred or so hours straight.

Can someone tell me if its possible to set this up to cover the entire screen on the the kuro 5010FD? I have the 'home gallery' option set to full which leaves a slight grey bar (maybe an inch) on the sides and an even slighter grey bar (maybe half an inch) on the tops and bottoms. I can't seem to make it any larger.

Any Ideas?

I never tried the memory stick route. I used a DVD player for the last two break-ins. Hopefully someone will have the answer you need here. Congrats again. I will post pics of my setup soon. Now I need the APC H15 to appear again for under $100. I should have bought one when I got my parents theirs. Now they go for around $400.

lol. well actually... I was , mistakenly? under the impression thattha break in would help with the possible image retention?

but I've read all over the place that burn in is highly unlikely with smart viewing and that the break in period is just to get a pro calibration to happen sooner than later. I wasn't planning on that anytime soon so tonight I will be hooking it up and watching like normal from here on
