Default 42" Pioneer Kuro in 720p. I really really want this TV, BUT...

Its not 1080p.

They have a 1080P in 50" I believe but I just cant afford $5K on a TV. Well on anything right now, I have a baby on that way. But I could do $2K with my tax return coming. Now I have read that there isnt any difference with a TV of this quality doing 720p vs 1080p under 50" screen sizes. I have also read that a Pionner/Samsing/Panny 720p will look way better than some lower end TV that is 1080p because resolution is not the be all end all of picture quality. Knowing all this I still am on the fence about buying the Kuro in 720p. Is it ME?

I just feel like Im cheating myself out of some of my BluRay goodness.

Is that the case here or would a TV of that quality and of 42" look amazing no matter what? It looked breathtakingly beautiful in Best Buy. I couldnt believe it was 720p but for the price I kind of thought it might be.

Not just you. I'm trying to convince my wife that we need a 60" Pioneer (the 6010FD)... (I'd go for the Pioneer Elite, but with the Extreme Contrast Kuros only a year or so away, I'll go for the cheaper option for now.)

That settles it then! I really love that TV and it unreal how natural and clear things look on it. Its like looking out a window. A very clean and clear window too! Thanks for the input.

I have the Elite version, the Pro-950HD and the Home Theater Mag review confirmed what I had believed for awhile: that the 720p (actually 768p) Pioneers have a superior video payback than most 1080p tv's out there. I absolutely love this panel and blu-rays look unbelievable on it!

I have the Pioneer PDP-6010FD 60" 1080P plasma and I paid $4,500 not sure where you saw a 50" for 5,000. You like the Pioneer PDP-5010FD? You can get it for about $3,200 here in the city. I've seen the 42" and at that size I don't think you would be able to see a difference if they made a 1080P model. But remember don't buy Pioneer online, they only have a warranty if purchased from a local store.

I have a 2 year-old 50" PDP-1130HD Elite, which is 720p (768 res), and the picture looks better than many 1080p sets I've seen out there. Bottom line: let your eyes guide you in your decision - the numbers (720p, 1080p) aren't everything.

I know that quoting myself is bad form, but I've just re-read the extreme contrast thread. The über-Kuros are probably 2 or 3 years away, so I'm beginning to wonder if I should save up the extra shekels for the 60" Pioneer Elite PRO-150FD (or whatever has replaced it one said shekels have been saved up!). Hmm, decisions, decisions...

I have the Elite Kuro 42" in our Hearth room and it has a spectacular picture. I compared it to similarly sized 1080p XBR(3,4,5) LCD sets from Sony and preferred the Kuro. The Sonys were a bit sharper, but I preferred the blacks, colors, and motion on the Kuro. Let your eyes decide, but I don't think you can go wrong with this set.

Not true at all. Pioneer has a number of authorized Internet dealers.

My dad has the 720p 42" Pioneer - an excellent, excellent TV. The picture is so crystal clear, I don't know if you'd be able to tell much of a difference between 1080i and p.

They are not an authorized Pioneer dealer. Buy from them at your own risk.

How much is the 720p 42" kuro going for? I was looking at the panny 42" that was 1080p and was rated the best tv for that size.

Nice TV!

Here in Canada the 6010 sells for 7999$! Right now it's on sale at 5999$ . I saw it with a samsung bd player playing the Prestige and it looked fantastic! All the other tvs had a poor "HD" feed loop.

Most probably I'm gonna go with the 50 inch model... But I think I'm gonna wait until the 9g models are released (anyone has an idea when then usually ship to retailers?). Right now the 50inch (5010) is on sale at 3999$ (usually 4999$)... Looks like I might have to cross the border to get a decent price!

I'm drooling over the 5080 at the moment. Just need $600 to pick it up if I return my current TV.
