Question about phantasm - Blu-ray Forum

Ok I'm a huge horror buff and am finally getting around to phantasm... Anyways I just bought the DVD, but later I read in my movie book that the theatrical version was originally rated X so they cut some scenes for an R rating. I was wondering if the DVD has these scenes restored and if there's one version definitively better than the other. I have the oldest DVD copy- as on not the remastered cut from like 2 years ago. I know the film has like a diehard cult following so I was hoping someone can help me..

as far as i know the 88 minute r rated version is the only version that has ever been available on dvd, in the us anyway.

so those alleged extra scenes have never seen the light of day?

Nope, the "R" rated is all we can get in the US....I dunno if the added footage is available overseas.
