Blu-ray Knight

Sadly, I must admit, that I have started to not notice how exceptional some films look on blu-ray. I just realized it today while watching Toy Story and Toy Story 2. Let me explain...
While watching the films I said, "wow, these look PHENOMENAL!" and I obviously still feel that way (10/10 for PQ for both from me, easily). But, for anyone who may complain that it's not as good as they expected - watch the bonus features (that are in SD 480p). After watching a few of these SD scenes, I was even more in awe of how the film looked in BD and it really made me appreciate how great it looks. I've only had my blu-rays for a little less than a YEAR and already I forget how terrible regular DVD's and TV look. I remember the first time I bought a BD and watched it. My jaw was on the floor. And I think (for most BD's, such as these) that that's how it should ALWAYS be. But I guess I'm just so used to expecting greatness that I don't appreciate it as much as I should. Anyone else come across this feeling / realization? I almost feel guilty for not sh*tting my pants in amazement at how good Toy Story looked because I'm so used to BD nowadays. Makes me kinda sad almost that I think I'm losing my appreciation for something so awesome. |

I live in a fraternity house, and I'm the only one out of the 30 of us to own a BR player. Most of my friends still think BR is a scam ("Does it really make that much of a difference?"), so I sense that BR has particularly not caught on among younger consumers who might be strapped for cash. I tell my friends unequivocally to go out and blind-buy a BR player, though, assuming they have a decent enough TV for it.
(Or I just tell them to pick a movie out of my collection to watch with me.) |

When I first got into blu-ray, I'll admit, while awesome looking, I wasnt amazed. However, when I purchased a 240hz LED TV and that mixed with a blu-ray player....every movie I watch on that now my jaw drops. I feel like I'm watching all these movies for the first time.

I agree, though, that showing someone a comparison between the footage in HD and the same footage in SD is enough to make someone a quick convert... |

Until my slow Netflix queue finally started catching up with a string of delayed New Releases, and sent me the Blu for some recent hit I hadn't even bothered to work up enough interest to see in the theaters in the first place. ...The thing looked just darn beautiful. ![]() Once in a while, you DO forget what BD color looks like, once you start taking your permanent shelf for granted. |
