Default Challenging small dedicated HT

Hello all... I finally got a new home and we've got an extra bedroom I can use for either a workout room or a HT. Obviously my preference is for a HT. My main goal is good acoustics and secondary is video. With that in mind I'm open to suggestions for laying out the room, acoustic treatments, seating, and the display (i'm going to use the polk speakers i already have). Basic dimensions are 10 x 10.5 with a closet.

I was thinking I would go plasma instead of PJ due to the smaller size of the room.

As far as audio I think 5.1 would work best but i've got the speakers for 7.1 if you think that would be better.

What furniture do you guys recommend to seat at least 2 people? Also how far back from the back wall do I need to sit for the best acoustics, and what acoustic treatments are recommended for a room of these dimensions.

The room is about the same size as my dedicated theater room, take a look in my gallery. We chose to go with two reclining puffy theater seats and I am glad we did! I however only really have room for 5.1 even though working corner to corner I am able to have two subs.

Any way to get pictures of your room?

Might help give you ideas for placement/room treatments, furniture/etc.

Square room isn't really ideal for the best acoustics, but here are a couple of articles you can check out that will help you with speaker placement.

sorry I just bought the house and don't close until the 26th so no pic yet. I did edit my first post with a diagram of the room though.

Thanks for the articles on speaker placement. That will definately help out. Anyone have something similar for how to apply room treatments in such a small room? I know acoustics are not going to be ideal but i assume it will be better to use a small extra bedroom that i can do whatever to than an open family room that i can't use any acoustic treatments on. If i'm wrong definately let me know

What size seating do you guys recommend? what display device? I was thnking one of those new 2010 panasonics but i'm definately open to recommendations.. budget could be as high as 6k for display, seating, and acoustic treatments.

A lot of people put panels behind the mains, bass traps in the corners, and hit the first order reflections. I would suggest contacting some place that sells acoustic panels such as GIK, ATS, Real Traps and get some advice. They may have you send them pics of your room and can recommend placement for you.

I have some hidden sound pads behind ALL my pictures that hang on my walls. Plus a nice thick 1K carpet helps out a bunch!!!!

I had good luck with ATS Acoustics. We ended up putting tile floor in our HT, due to the traffic of walking from our kitchen, carpet just wasn't ideal. The acoustic panels helped out a ton.
