Why do you have it turned all the way up? You couldnt possibly be listening to your amp at capacity..8-5 is 130 watts or so, unless you live in the sticks and can run your amp at a full 70 dbs and not want to cry, you are missing out on a lot of great sound. |

Anyway, Way Too Loud IMO. I mistakenly had it up a bit recently (had a low volume issue, did Audyssey, & some tweaks, all good now) to near 6 or 8, and noticed "Clipping" sounds when FF thru commercials or what have you, mainly from my Rear surrounds. I thought, "that doesn't sound good!", and investigated here, Read My Manual some more, and now have it at either 0 or 2 at the most - depending on what i'm watching. There is a thread somewhere here on this issue tho'. Last edited by Aerodude73; 04-02-2009 at 05:00 PM. |

If you haven't already that is. I'm thinking you may have only for the reason it set all my speakers quite low (aside from the Rear Surrounds, which I had to turn Down - too loud I thought). I also saw something here about "Intellivolume" and thought it to be a Power Boost, when I could just have spent some time tweaking the Audio Settings a bit. For me, I have all my speakers (Front, Center, Rears, Sub) at 80hz, and the fronts at +3 or 4db, Center at +7, Rears at +5 I think, and the Sub at 0. For ME, this seems to work right now. For you, it might not: different speakers, room dimensions, furniture, drapes, etc. All of which contribute to how a room might sound good or like crap.
Experiment. Re-do Audyssey if you haven't already. Hopefully you will get a sound that works For YOU, w/out using Intellivolume cranked at Full. ![]() Anyone else feel free to jump in. ![]() |

Lol... movies at 50, 60+... My freaking walls shake if I get near 0 lol, most movies I watch at -15 to -20. I came home yesterday and our daughter had it cranked up to -12 with madagascar in and I could hear it outide easily.
Edit: my ps3 would have a heart attack if i tried to watch a movie with the cabinet doors closed DTS-HD lol. Last edited by rlf3911; 04-02-2009 at 06:21 PM. |

Cool. It's all just a matter of trying different settings, along with Audyssey if possible, to get an Idea of what IT thinks your system should be at, etc.

dude read your manual, intellivolume is so you can volume match different sources to the same volume levels. So if you find your cable box outputs sound lower than say your blu-ray player you can adjust the intellivolume higher so it's closer to your blu-ray or vice versa.

Yes. Onkyo doesn't use monikers of "large" or "small" which in my opinion are kind of stupid anyway. It's better to just say "full band" or a crossover. Running them at 80hz is what THX recommends and it's personally what I run my system at. I let the sub do the low end and let my speakers and receiver breathe doing the upper end audio.
