See my thread below...

Why do you have it turned all the way up? You couldnt possibly be listening to your amp at capacity..8-5 is 130 watts or so, unless you live in the sticks and can run your amp at a full 70 dbs and not want to cry, you are missing out on a lot of great sound.

SPH - Where's the Thread you note?

Anyway, Way Too Loud IMO. I mistakenly had it up a bit recently (had a low volume issue, did Audyssey, & some tweaks, all good now) to near 6 or 8, and noticed "Clipping" sounds when FF thru commercials or what have you, mainly from my Rear surrounds. I thought, "that doesn't sound good!", and investigated here, Read My Manual some more, and now have it at either 0 or 2 at the most - depending on what i'm watching. There is a thread somewhere here on this issue tho'.

Default Try your Audyssey

If you haven't already that is. I'm thinking you may have only for the reason it set all my speakers quite low (aside from the Rear Surrounds, which I had to turn Down - too loud I thought). I also saw something here about "Intellivolume" and thought it to be a Power Boost, when I could just have spent some time tweaking the Audio Settings a bit. For me, I have all my speakers (Front, Center, Rears, Sub) at 80hz, and the fronts at +3 or 4db, Center at +7, Rears at +5 I think, and the Sub at 0. For ME, this seems to work right now. For you, it might not: different speakers, room dimensions, furniture, drapes, etc. All of which contribute to how a room might sound good or like crap.

Experiment. Re-do Audyssey if you haven't already. Hopefully you will get a sound that works For YOU, w/out using Intellivolume cranked at Full.

Anyone else feel free to jump in.

Cool. Now try some Blurays, and TV viewing also. See how diff. channels sound & a few movies. Most BR's I have in the 50's (volume wise) or a bit more, for TV viewing usually in the mid 40's-50 or so. Though for "HELLBOY II", that was SO LOUD (), I had that in the Mid 40's at best - & that was with the old 505 AVR I had & before my T90e Front spkrs came in. That movie is Definitely Reference quality for Audio & Video. It's what made me ponder going 7.1.

Quick question for ya,by setting your speakers to 80hz,is that basically setting them to small? Was wondering since Onkyo doesnt give you the choice to set speakers to ''large'' or ''small''.

Yes. Onkyo doesn't use monikers of "large" or "small" which in my opinion are kind of stupid anyway. It's better to just say "full band" or a crossover. Running them at 80hz is what THX recommends and it's personally what I run my system at. I let the sub do the low end and let my speakers and receiver breathe doing the upper end audio.

Ok,thanks.I guess where i was confusing myself was,if you set say your front speakers to a lower hz,that would make them output more bass that the sub should rather be putting out.Does that make any sense? It might only in my mind. I have set mine to 80 hz as well.
