Default HDMI Cable for PS3

I've heard pretty much that any HDMI cable delivers about the same quality video, but was wondering if that's true. I'd hate to buy a monster cable for like $100 when a $15 cord will suffice. I'll also need like a 3 foot cable tops.

As well, does the PS3 take a special type of HDMI cable, or would any cable suffice to use in conjunction with the PS3?

My choice would be Blue Jeans.

There are a lot of threads for this though . . . search for HDMI and you'll have enough reading for a week.

I heard that any HDMI is fine.

I just bought the Sony HDMI (6.5ft) cable at Wal-Mart. It was $39. My PS3 comes tomorrow, so I don't have any results yet.

My friend went to Circuit City and spent $80 on some cable. It works fine too.

I bought my HDMI cable from monoprice and it's working like a champ sending full PCM 5.1 and 1080p signals. Absolutely zero issues, and it cost me $6 plus shipping.

I'm using the HDMI cable that came with my 360 Elite.

I sold the Elite and kept the cable (made by Microsoft no doubt...)

Got my HDMI cords from monoprice. So happy with the first set, I bought some more. Smooth transactions.

For best results... don't use a 10 foot cable.

3 feet is more than plenty for most installations, unless you've got one of those huge projector + screen setups with a 10 foot screen and need that extra wire length (at which point you want multiple cables and signal repeaters, not necessarily "better cables").

Default No hdmi should cost $100

HDMI cables at Best Buy are total crap. If you pay more than $50 for anything under 10 feet you are being ripped off. I have personal experience using the phoenix gold brand at 30 feet and have seen ZERO signal dropout problems. The ironic thing is phoenix gold cables for $100 are up to 50 feet or so. Do not buy Rocket Fish or those other "in store" brands. 6 foot at the Apple store was only $20.

I'm using a 35 foot HDMI cable from monoprice (about $30) for my projector and have no issues at all.

Not sure that the 10 foot thing is an absolute rule...

It's not, but the point is that the longer the cable, the higher the chance of digital dropout. Much safer to go with shorter cables with repeaters than risking bad results with a longer cable.

In any case, using more length than necessary is never a good idea.

I have 2 rocketfish 8' hdmi cables that work great. Although I did get them at a generous employee discount. But yeah it is a pretty high markup. Walmart is probably the cheapest "brick" store. Amazon is cheap too.

I bought my cables off of newegg for about 10 bucks a piece, the only difference between it and a monster cable is the name and more importantly the price! There is no difference between the 10 dollar cable or the over priced monster cable which run about a 100 dollars for the same thing.

Make sure they are 1.3 and not 1.2.

i know dam well if im spending 600 dollars for a ps3 and 2200 dollars for a 1080p television and 100 somethin dollars for a frickin monster cable.........i shouldnt have ANY PROBLEM what so ever RECEIVING any picture quality or sound......which i haven't experienced and dont expect to experience any problem...................a 3 foot 6 foot 10 foot or 20 foot cable shouldnt make a difference in the quality of picture or sound unless the stuff is cheap and GARBAGE.....maybe im wrong but if so, i might have to hang up any new technology upgrades for the next 5 years until they make something right and worth the money you spend to see great results

Finally got my PS3.

I'm using the Sony HDMI cable (1.3) that I got for $39 from Wal-Mart. It's 6.5 ft and works great.

I originally bought a $60 cable from Circuit City. Took a chance on an $8 shipped off eBay afterwards. Compared both. Returned the $60 to Circuit City and bought a couple more Blu-Ray discs.
Bottom line - NO DIFFERENCE IN QUALITY IMHO
