3 feet is more than plenty for most installations, unless you've got one of those huge projector + screen setups with a 10 foot screen and need that extra wire length (at which point you want multiple cables and signal repeaters, not necessarily "better cables").

I'm using a 35 foot HDMI cable from monoprice (about $30) for my projector and have no issues at all.

Not sure that the 10 foot thing is an absolute rule...
