I picked up the Fight Night: Champion (Champion Mode) today on the PSN which was priced at $4.99.
Once you buy that, you get the full game download (which is about 4 gigs or so) and the 100k download of the Champion Mode which is the story based mode with Andre Bishop. When you load up the game, you have the opportunity to buy individual modes separately rather than the entire game at once (Which you can do as well). Below are the prices for the separate modes. Wish they'd do this with the NCAA and Madden football games! • Champion Mode (standalone) – $4.99 Additional game modes available for purchase within Fight Night in-game store: • Fight Now – $5.00 • Legacy Mode and Boxer Share – $10.00 • Online Play – $10.00 I think this is excellent and I wish more full retail games would take this. How many people will now get this who do not have any interest in the Online Play? Or who simply wanted the story mode of this? Seriously this may be the 1st time I've ever said this, but kudos EA! |

I have to disagree. Instead of buying a whole game you have to buy each piece before you have a complete game? Oh hey you can get this game for only $10, BUT WAIT! You're only getting Story Mode. If you want Free for all and online modes, you have to pay more cash. Seriously in the wrong hands (*cough*Activision*cough*Capcom*cough*) this is REALLY a bad idea. DLC already is doing stuff like this.
Oh well at least I can use my PSN cash to buy something worthwhile. Last edited by TL OWNS U; 11-17-2011 at 12:58 AM. |

You still pay the EXACT SAME if you buy all the pieces individually or just buy the retail game via the PSN. The game is $29.99 on the PSN All the individual modes add up to $29.99 This is great for those who are only interested in specific aspects of the game such as the story mode or whatever. And they are not doing a bait and switch here. IT's CLEARLY listed and stated what you are getting. There's no misleading or deception here. |

How many gamers out there would buy a game if they could buy individual modes and not have to pay extra for online servers which they will never use? If I could get Uncharted 2 or 3 for less with the online aspects removed, that'd be awesome. Because I never play online. |

I agree with TL OWNS U this is BAD very BAD.It only takes one company to start a fire like the online pass that started this year. It was at first okay because it was only adding a fee to play mulitplayer for used copies that crap spread and company's thought ohh we can do this too and what happened? We had to purchase single player content for used games see Batman Arkham City

I honestly don't get the hate here. I get not liking EA as I don't care for them either, although I like some of their games.
But this can really only be a good thing provided there isn't a buy the game and then find out to play it you have to buy more stuff. I mean I look at it like this. I have ZERO interest in fighting online with this game. So I paid $4.99 for the Story Mode which you get the download of the entire game file with it. Now since I don't want to get the Online aspect, that's $10.00 off the $29.99 price that is given for the entire game on the PSN store. So if I want everything else, I'm getting all of the game I want and none of the game I don't want, for $19.99. How is getting the a good game for less while not having to pay more for aspects you don't want a bad thing? I'd LOVE to be able to buy NCAA 13 when it comes out on the PSN with no online functionality (aside from being able to do the roster share). Imagine instead of paying 50 bucks or more you could buy the "Play Now", "Road to Glory" and "Offline Dynasty" for say $30 or $35 dollars? $15 for each Road to Glory & Dynasty and $5 for Play Now. That's a bad thing? People are so down on this pointing out random hypotheticals of "company X could do this and do something bad with it". **** company X and what they may or may not do. The bottom line here is do you think THIS is a good thing? Releasing a game a la carte where you can buy the functionality you want and you don't have to pay for stuff you don't want. How is this specific instance a bad thing? |

I can speak of the sports division because till last year and since 2008 i was buying NHL , FIFA and every year was the same the game with the online features full of problems the cheating was unbearable and worst they were always aware of the problems and did nothing . The online playability it's terrible since they run there servers but it looks like they don't know what they are doing and everybody complains . ![]() |

Well I realize there are a myriad of problems with how EA goes about their stuff. I don't play online with the football games, so I don't know how rampant the cheating or whatever is. I honestly have no idea how you cheat on there unless it's just bailing on the game if you start losing or quitting before the final second so as to prevent a loss. I believe some games have a thing in place where if you disconnect, then you automatically get a loss or something along the lines of "games not finished" which indicates that you bailed, so people know whether or not you are someone who does that.
I know with EA's Fight Night Round 4 I was very irritated by the way they do the whole belts thing. I heard (I believe Jamclaur is who told me) that those who have the belts won't even bother trying to defend them, so no one can get those trophies. Or they basically make anyone who wants to fight them, paypal them money JUST FOR THE RIGHT TO FIGHT THEM. That's not right, and it seems they never did anything to combat that. So I understand THAT aspect of the frustration, and I'm not saying this makes up for ANY of that. That's why I put in the title "EA Finally does something right?" to illustrate that this would be one of the very few times that they did something that seems to be a cool thing. |

This is a good idea. I can't see it being a good idea for the publisher unless it really does spur sales that otherwise would have never happened. I'm sure they are completely fine with you paying for multiplayer but then never using their servers to do so.
Calling this a bad idea would be like thinking cable providers offering individual channels to you a set price bad, and how many people always hoped they could just pay for what they watch? I would probably buy more downloadable games if this option was more present. No need to unnecessarily pad the space requirements for things I'll never play. |

For those that don't like the price, they can find it discounted at a shop for $5-$20 like we usually see. There's Target, Walmart, Gamefly, Sears, etc. and they do a great job of discounting games soon after they're released. You'll get the whole game, too.
