Default Best Buy's Golden Compass bonus footage disc - DVD only!

I was looking forward to get the Golden Compass tomorrow but because these bastards greedy studios, I will have to wait until for the proper Blu-Ray edition is release. Here's what Bill Hunt over at the Digital Bits Had to say:

And here's one more thing that's going to drive some of you crazy: We've learned that Best Buy is going to have an exclusive bonus disc with New Line's The Golden Compass: 2-Disc Platinum Edition on Tuesday, featuring "over 45 minutes worth of extra footage." In other words, it would seem, deleted scenes. The deleted scenes that aren't yet being restored to the movie itself... and which aren't included on the Blu-ray Disc version. Which means, there's going to be a double-dip one of these days (probably when the sequels show up in theatres, which we hear WILL happen because Compass made so much money internationally, even though it hasn't yet been officially announced). What's more, to our knowledge, the bonus disc is only available with the DVD version. In other words, if you're a Blu-ray fan... yes, you ARE getting screwed. You know, we don't mind retailer exclusives like special packaging or swag items, but when ACTUAL CONTENT is only available at a particular retailer - especially something this interesting to fans of the film - that just sucks. Period. Whoever made this decision at New Line or Warner should know better.

All right, anyway. Some things just piss a guy off. As a fan of movies on disc, you hate feeling like you're being taken advantage of, you know?

I didn't intend on buying Golden Compass, but something like this motivates me even more to keep my money in my wallet.

Haven't seen the movie, but have read that there is no directors cut with the extended scenes as the article states.

I'm having flashbacks of when DVD's were released, then re-released with better pic more extras...

The studios are cranking the $$$ machine

I was on the fence about buying this BD, but now after reading your post I believe my mind is made up. I'm better served grabbing some older blus that I've been wanting instead.

Thank you for posting this information. I had pre-ordered it from Amazon, but then I cancelled it last week after reading more and more negative feedback on the movie itself. I will wait for it to come on HBO HD (or similar HD channel). I will not rent. I hate greasy, germ encrusted rentals.

I refuse to pay $28 for the movie so waiting is a no brainer for me.

Good to know there are deleted scenes and content not being released tomorrow.

Still going to buy it. Most of the time those 'Bonus Discs' are just fluff anyway.

Not planning on it. What you SHOULD buy is the audiobook narrated by the author himself with a full vocal cast. They made all 3 books and they are great! I listen to them at work when my mind doesn't need to concentrate on anything important (like work )
You can get it on iTunes. The first is the Golden Compass. The second is the Subtle Knife. The last is the Amber Spyglass.
Sure they cost as much or more than the Blu-ray, but you get the entire story, and it lasts much longer.
Imagination has no resolution, only your own limitations.

They're screwing up a movie which should've been done right to begin with.

Or, you can check the audio books out at the public library, which is FREE.

I only listened to the first two. I thought the second was boring as hell.

Wow...the movie sucked to begin with but this just puts the icing on it....

I refuse to buy this movie.

Hopefully a lot of people will complain to them. And it will be rereleased soon,...

my brother works at best buy, and the extra disc is no more than a small behind the scenes documentary, most of which have already been shown. There are no deleted scenes on the extra disc!!! I CAN'T WAIT TO GET MY Blu-Ray COPY!

I'm with you. Sure, I wouldn't mind the extras, but my primary concern is the movie in the best PQ and AQ possible. I'm picking this up - although with a few coupons (geez, I feel like Pinoy saying this) I'll be able to purchase it for $19.99.

So Bill Hunt had a fit over something that really didn't matter anyway. Heh.

Like I said, I figured it was simply going to be fluff. They wouldn't release the deleted scenes because they want to get people to double dip for the extended cut when the next movie hits theaters.

Ads can be deceptive. Just look at Target which often words the ad so it sounds like they're getting exclusive extras, when they're just selling the same DVD as everyone else. That's been the most obvious case of deceptive ads. Just because it says it has extra footage does not mean it has deleted scenes.

Either way, the policy needs to be changed so the person who's spending $7 more money, and getting 10% less discount off of SRP is given equal treatment. Nuff said

This is what really ticks me off with Blu-Ray. According to them, the discs can hold a lot more than regular dvds, if thats the case why not put everything you can cram into them??? Its bad enough that we're paying astronomical prices for them, why dont the studios "throw us a bone"??? If there are deleted scenes to this, they should make them Blu-Ray exclusives or something exclusive only to Blu-Ray.................

This stuff surprises me, that bonus disc should have been a Blu-ray exclusive or at least both editions. I'd like to see more BD exclusives such as steelbook packaging or anything special to help drive the market. Everyone should get GC on BD, don't hold off for the inevitable re-releases that probably won't come until the next theatrical release which is likely years off.
