Default Blu-ray vs. HD DVD: Local News Report

OK, so one of my local news stations (the NBC one of course) ran a report tonight on Blu-ray vs. HD DVD. While much of it was true... and they oddly admitted that Blu-ray has better video quality... they quoted the prices of HD DVD players as being $30 to $800... yes, $30.

So where are these new miraculous $30 HD DVD players? Why, they're upscaling DVD players, which they don't seem to realize are different. They quote Shopzilla on the prices which likewise doesn't make a distinction. Similarly, since Shopzilla doesn't bring up a listing for the PS3 when you search Blu-ray players, they neglect to mention it as well.

And then they give the advice of... don't buy either till one wins. Nothing about Blu-ray being ahead in any way. Oddly, since its the local NBC (aka Viacom) affiliate, they either don't know that they're supposed to be pimping HD DVD, or don't care.

Anyway, here's a link to the online version of the article. FWIW, I sent an email to the article's writer, asking for a correction.
