Default Report from local Best Buy

I went to my local Best Buy today. I took my copies of Sky Captain and Enter the Dragon in to test some equipment. I asked the salesperson if he noticed any preference for either Blu or dud over each other. He said definitely. He said there are rarely people looking at duds while there are people regularly looking at Blu discs. And he said it wasn't just him that notices it. I remember when VHS tapes were slowly phased out there when DVDs became more popular. I wonder which will be phased out first, SD DVDs or hd-duds?

I was at Best Buy today (picked up Corpse Bride) and it was hilarious these two guys (friends I think) were arguing HD DVD vs Blu-ray. I was keeping mostly silent but when the HD DVD guy pointed out MI:3 from Paramount and mentioned how you couldn't get it on blu-ray anymore, I proceeded to closely inspect the package of the MI 3-pack on BD

On another note... only 1 HD DVD endcap vs 3 for BD, however the Samsung endcap had been screwed up (sabotaged?) and was not working at all, and the Sony endcap was showing Scooby-Doo which looked absolutely TERRIBLE!

oh HD-DVD will be phased out waaaaay before SD DVDs will for sure. There are millions and millions of SD DVD players out there and it will be a few years before HD is commonplace.

A best buy employee telling the truth.......wha?

I see the same result happening at my best buy, Blu ray now makes up 2/3 of the shelf space in the hd section so this is very good. As to the whole dvd thing, dvd is going to be around for quite a while more I think, I'll give it up to 7 years before its phased out, but hd dud will be phased out plenty before then.

I had done my research on the HD format three months ago, and had already determined I was going with Blu-ray and nothing else. So I go into the local BB and I asked them what format they would recommend just to see if their answers matched my findings and the HD format projected winner. They really did steer me twards blu. I was glad to hear honest opinions when its their job to sell either format to customers. I showed them no pre-determined preference and let the "professionals" offer their personal choice to a customer. It was refreshing to not be fed any BS or work with someone who had no idea what they were talking about. Blu will win sooner if this is indicative of what the uneducated populace encounter with sales people.

I posted in another thread a while back, that I was in my bestbuy here in Lynchbrug VA (HD not big item yet), and its a pretty even stock between Blu and HD-DVD on the shelf. But everytime I go in to get a movie, NOBODY is ever looking at either format. Guess its just a small christian town that doesnt realize Blu now has porn available!!

anyways, I picked up Disturbia and was checking out when the check out guy said "yeah I have disturbia, for my PS3"

(I think we have closet Blubloods in Lynchburg!)

I went to best buy in Cherry Hill Nj yesterday. They had 3 different sections were you could buy blu-ray. One was even right in front. They had most tvs hooked up with blu-ray players including the new Pioneer Elite. That was a major change since last month.

Default hd done right?

HD done right at best buy right? i got my mailer from best buy and they were offering me 10% tvs and home theater equipement, but when i looked at the exclusions, it included blu-ray and hd-dvd players.

i don't understand how they expect people to join HD with their current promotion without discounting the BD and hd-dud players. maybe they're just trying to push hdtv via cable and direct tv.

LOL!

Like I posted before - another thread... my local BB has about 50/50 space for each.
Blu-ray section is sparse and well picked through, HD DVD is (literally) dusty and more or less fully stocked.

I have to go in with a list of possible wants because many titles are sold out(go figure, huh?).

It seems, here, that more people are buying up the Blu and leaving HD DVD to rot. LOL!

I own Best Buy stock and I will be mailing them a letter to show my concern for their decision to carry both formats and that they should support Blu-Ray only. I will tell them about the lead Blu-Ray has over HD-DUD in sales (2:1 lead; since it is a retail store I think they'll appreciate the numbers).

I don't see BB or CC going blu-ray exclusive any time soon. Paramount still has stuff on DVD people want to buy. Don't think they want to make them or the customer base angry. Mostly likely will be done silently and slowly. That 18 month Paramount deal will keep both items on the shelves a while. Unless HD-DVD starts to loose too many sales and they drop it. Then Paramount will be pissed and know how we felt. Serves them right.

I also see these places steering customers to them because they are bigger profit items. ASIDE from the fact the employees are quickly learning the different, ASIDE from the fact HD-DUD's are probably coming back, ASIDE from the fact PS3 is giving it a big boost.

Aside from the fact it is just better.

The BB here in Missoula has two blu end caps to hd's one. The two blu stands are right there where the tv's are displayed but the hd crap is all the way down on the other side where headphones are.

no one ever sees that but the two blu's (a sony s300 and the sammy) are front and center!

Im not fond of their prices, but I do have to give them a pat on the back for that one. Also, a friend of mine there has hooked me up with his employee discount for virtually everything I own. Now all I have to do is install it. Ugg.

I still believe that we need to get every PS3 owner on board with BD - if all the owners woke up today and bought just one movie, we'd be killing HD-DVD right now.

I own 21 BD movies - and just bought my first HDTV today (had the PS3 since April). Maybe people don't need to be so hardcore but PS3 owners are the ones who can bring the numbers up.

Maybe give coupons or something inside games?
