Default Damaged DVD and/or Blu-Ray Artwork: How Anal Are You About It?

So, I've dealt with having holes and creases and wrinkled artwork for DVD and Blu-Ray movies. To be quite frank, I can be quite anal as to what I would consider it a need for an exchange.

Recently, my OCD nerves kicked in when I received the Hey! Arnold Complete Series set from Shout Factory. 16 discs are housed in 2 fat 8-disc cases. The artwork towards the top in the corner near the spine of one case has a tiny crumpled mark. When I say tiny, I mean a baby ant size.

Pllleeaseee make me feel better about it. It's like, once you notice the smallest imperfections on certain things, you'll notice them forever, or until you fix or replace them.

I've sent quite a few Blu's back to Amazon because of damage to the packaging.

It bugs me, but I just live with it... never replaced a disc for the artwork.

You know what I see too often? When the paper is carelessly left crooked so it's partially sticking out the top. Then, when that strip of tape hoes over the top of the case, it's not just sticking to the plastic but the artwork itself. So you wind up stripping the top of the art just removing the tape.

I've had a few like this, and it makes me nuts. I finally bought a second copy of Showgirls when it hit $4.99 due to such damage, regardless of the slipcover obscuring it. Some will probably be asking why I bought a first copy. Unfortunately, my similarly marred copy of Alice Cooper - Theatre of Death: Live at Hammersmith 2009 was already out of print in the U.S. when I was lucky enough to acquire it at a local store.

I've received a couple of blu rays where the artwork had small tears in it due to the stupid eco cases, but those can be hidden if you put them in non-eco cases.

What really bothers me is when I receive a dented digipak/books, or one that has rounded corners. I generally prefer digipaks to plastic cases, especially in box sets of 10+ discs, but they are a real risk to buy.

If its something from the $7.88 walmart bin I dont care if it is alittle banged up. But if I'm buying a steelbook or any collectable packaging then I care alot! Like when I was buying the walmart Walking Dead season 4 Limited Edition set I made sure to inspect every copy to make sure I was getting the best one. Some copies of the set had the Alex Ross artwork printed at a weird angle, or the box corners were crushed in. And if your buying one of those sets for damn near $50 bucks they should be in perfect shape. If not it feels like your paying retail price for a used copy.

I wouldn't feel so bad if my Hey! Arnold Complete Series set had a slight ding on the case. Isn't it like $14 bucks for 99 episodes?

Punctures bother me.
Wrinkles on the artwork bother me.
Dents on the artwork bother me.
The title on the spine not lining up directly in the center bothers me.

I feel your pain, OP.

For me, it depends on whether the Blu-ray/DVD was purchased new or used.
If it is new, I'd expect it to be practically flawless with no visible imperfections. If it is used, then I expect it to have creases, rips, scratches, etc on it.

I am very anal. I don't even like there to be left over shrink wrap melted on the spine of my discs (and I hate it when there is). Of course, I also hate those stupid eco friendly discs. I hate it when there is a slight finger nail indentation on the plastic sleeve. I hate boxes that look like they were knocked against the table, and discs that do not say in their cases properly.

It does not matter if I purchased it new or used. In fact, I inspect every orifice of both the case and disc before I buy it.

Personally this is when it goes too far; I'm sure positive many of us on here have OCD about discs and the cases that house them, and that's understandable when it comes to a passion, but getting upset over such a tiny mark shows perspective has been fully lost and you really need to find a way to control that. I've been there myself and it's just not fun; instead of looking forward to something arriving I would be stressed at what faults it was bound to have, and that OCD-drive impacted the rest of my life too, incrementally.

What bothers me when it comes to damaged DVD and/or BD artwork is when:

1. the artwork has got some sort of irregular impressions that looked like they were caused by someone having used a pen to rub on its surface.

2. the title on the spine doesn't lie symmetrically in the middle of the case due to the artwork design itself, which has miscalculated (or did not consider) the dimensions of the case in which it will be inserted.

Other than these two, I'm okay with any imperfections of the artwork.

I refuse to order steelbooks through the mail for fear of damage done during shipping. Once I purchase a steelbook and open it to find damage I feel like I wasted my money.
Yeah, steelbooks drive me nuts and I try to avoid them. I had the James Bond movies that were in steelbook form and they would just scratch when you looked at them wrong. As such, I took them back to the store when the non steelbook versions came out and exchanged them. Thankfully, Scarface does not seem to be as bad.

Sent you a PM.

I used to be that way OP, now I'm better about it. If it has some creases etc ill deal, but too many, like dents and damage I'll exchange. Honestly it's more annoying than anything else. Being worried about stupid stuff like this when I should be concerned about other things. Just don't like it.

for me it depends on how i bought it.

pawn store as long as the disc is good i good.

cheap as long as its not bad i am ok

if i paid a decent amount i want the case, artwork, and disc to be flawless.

i recently had joined the Disney club, even though tech most was free for eligibility for joining i also know in the end you are basically paying for them anyways. my first shipment had 4 broken cases and one artwork really damaged (gargoyles s2 vol 2) and i asked for all of them to be replaced and instead of replacing what was damaged ie the cases and artwork they replaced the whole order.

i had the charmed complete series that was the collectors edition that was the book of spells. many dvd's are scratched in the set. i didn't bother to check 90% of them and just emailed about replacements and they replaced them.

not really a result of bad case or artwork but i've had two dvd's stopped working in fact the discs look flawless but neither will be recognized i contacted wb and they sent me a label to send them back to replacements.

This kinda sums my new outlook on collecting/building my library.
I used to go nuts over any imperfection, but have gotten more mellow with age. I noticed my Rounders has a hole in the art from the eco-case, but let that slide since it was cheap enough. A slightly dinged slip from the pawn shop doesn't bother me, but I spent a few minutes going through Walking Daed BB slips until I found one perfectly centered and not dinged on the edges. I think it (collector OCD) rears it's ugly head when it can. When there's 40 copies of something, I want the perfect one. When there's only one copy at a great price, I'm good with a few dings on the case or slip. The discs only have to be playable. I can deal with scuffs and scratches as long as they don't affect play. Wasn't always the case, but am so ****ing happy it is now, as I get more enjoyment out of watching my movies and not obsessing over the imperfections on the cases or discs.
