I'm have a Vizio 60 inch that does 720 but I don't know whether to upgrade to a 1080p T.V. It looks fine to me but I hear 1080p is better. Then I guess I would have to choose between a LCD or plasma since I seen 1080p plasma now. Please help.By the way I LOVE BLU-RAY . It's the BEST!

Welcome to the forums. You are probably ok with what you have for now, unless you have the money to put into a new tv, then I would say go for it!
I'm assuming your set is 720p native, but can display 1080 (like mine). It is an excellent picture, but is it worth the cost to you? |

Here is what I say, if you have ANY question at all about being able to afford it now wait. Yes it looks better but not leaps and bounds above 720. If you have the money just laying around and not doing anything and you have been saving it for buying a new TV then yes go ahead. But as I said if you dont think you can afford it right now then it is best to wait as technology keeps getting better and better and next year will have even better deals as will the next. So wait until you are 100% sure it can be afforded and not take something else away from another area of your life. Just my thoughts.

I agree with the OP's. Wait...right now TV technologies are expanding and adding new and new features, more so than previously, in each new model year. I would wait until HDTV's become more mainstream so the new technology and features level off thus making the sets cheaper. Maybe by next holiday this will happen. I am on the sideline waiting to purchase a 1080p set as well.

The whole thing is my wife wants a new t.v for the bedroom. So i'm going to end up getting another one anyway. So since i'm spending my money I might as well get the best I can get.We still have a old t.v in the bedroom so anything would be a step up.

Patience is still my favorite virtue.
As long as my friends/family keep wanting to come over to my house to watch the NFL in HD, that tells me my 720p/1080i Sony is still getting it done. Next time around I'm going to buy a top of the line Pioneer Plasma but that won't be until probably after 2009. |

If you have the money lieing around and are wanting one then I would say go for it. The only reason to wait is if you dont really have the money are are waffling about getting now or waiting. Walmart has a special sale friday with a Vizio 50" Plasma TV for $998. That sounds like an excellent deal to me. The sale starts Friday(tomorrow) at 8 AM. Something like that I would not expect there to be very many of them so you might need to get there at 8 if not sooner if you are interested.

When Best Buy asked me if I wanted their service plan on my $750 36" LCD, I passed--
As I assumed that if I ever had any conceivable problems with it one year down the road, I'd probably be able to upgrade to a bigger 1080 by that time for the same price... ...Patience is a good thing to have. ![]() |

I have a 32" LCD VIZIO and it supports both 720p/1080i so I know yours should as well. I believe I would save my money on something else that you would like to have or may need. If your really desperate in getting a tv for your bedroom I would just get a cheaper and smaller HDTV like the 26" VIZIO.
That way your saving money on Blus and other stuff you want. 32" VIZIO 720p/1080i 80gb PS3 / Blu-ray player 4 PS3 games / 4 Blu-ray discs soon to own more ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I havae to agree with everyone else here. Wait. Even if you wait until after christmas you will save a bundle, the sales and clearance will save you even more. In the meantime, do your research and make sure you know what you want. So many choices,

All I know is that plasma consumes lot of energy and it will burn images into screen from videogames and it doesn't last as long as LCD or CRTs. Go for LCD TV if you do decide not to wait.

So are you buying a new TV as your second one, or will you be upgrading as well as buying another one? If you're planning on upgrading I would say do it when you can buy a better brand and not just a 1080p set. First choice would be a Pioneer Elite or Kuro if you have the money...second choice is an XBR4. If you're going to just be buying a TV for your bedroom you could go with either an XBR4 or a W3000...I'd go 40". It depends on your budget.

I agree with Grisle save for a Kuro or Kuro Elite unless you got the cash now. Also just a comment on putting lcd in your bedroom you may want to put it on a wall mount that lest you adjust the viewing angle.

I can only tell you from my experience.. 720/1080i is probably good enough if you watch mostly hd tv over cable or satellite.
I have a sony 36" 1080i crt and its picture is amazing with the hd content on tv. I just upgraded to a larger Sony XBR4 46" 1080p because I do a lot of gaming and watch a lot of blu-rays on my ps3 and all I can say is WOW!!! what a difference the 1080P makes! the DISH hd content looks great on the new set it but I couldn't tell much of a difference other than size from my old set. but the blu-rays look PHENOMENAL in 1080p. The images are so crisp and clear it even made my wife who would normally care less whether she watched anything in HD or SD go "DAMN! that is impressive!" I hear that 1080p really only matters if your getting anything bigger than a 40" and in my case that would seem to be true.. but if your going to get something bigger than that I say go with the 1080p. I would def go with a sony or samsung for lcd, i also hear the sharp aquos are good but I don't have any personal experience with those. If your going for plasma Pioneer seems to be the way to go. |
