Default Shakes Fist at Audio Defaults!!!

I know I've seen this brought up to the insiders but it's really starting to annoy me. I really wish there was a default setting for Lossless audio on BD players? I know most players have language & subtitle default settings but I'd really like to see some kind of default for audio codec. The default audio is not usually lossless so I have to go to the menu and change it. Grrrr.
I'm hoping this will create some concensus about this for future firmware at best and future players at least. Anyone?

On Fox movies DTS-MA is the default audio track on my PS3. Of course I'm stuck with the core track. I don't remember of the same goes for True-HD. But yea it is a bummer about LPCM.

I like the idea, I know it was brought up in the Insider's Thread as a potential PS3 suggestion...

I don't mind having to do the audio setup so much from the menu, but saving me the trouble would be nice. And I *DO* hate it when a movie starts automatically and I realize partway in I forgot to do the audio! (This doesn't happen when there's a menu of course)...

On the bright side, I did that with Pearl Harbor the other day and switched it to PCM about 5 minutes in without stopping the movie, and all of a sudden my wife believes me that lossless audio = cool Instant difference!

I've got a PS3 for the moment too so I have the same issue with DTS-MA. Offhand Warner titles come to mind as having lossy audio defaults so I guess what I'm aiming at is I hope for future player default settings that amend those discs that default to lossy audio.

This is just a guess but I think the reason PCM might be off by default is because those customers using an optical connection to their sound system would then have a 2 channel mix on by default and might be confused as to what's going on (especially if the disc menu says 5.1). TrueHD and DTS-MA have their respective lossy cores and thus don't need to worry about the 5.1 audio being downgraded to 2.0 I think, which might be why we see discs that default to TrueHD and DTS-MA but never PCM.

Warner needs to STOP having the movie automatically start with the DD track default track. This is terrible practice. At least start with a menu to allow me to switch to an advanced track instead of taking me out of the movie every time to switch over.

Yeah, I use the pop up menu on the PS3 and just change the audio via that. No need to go to the main menu. Triangle button -> audio icon -> click to find audio track (use the select button to bring up the audio/video information overlay) -> done.

I'll hold off on the BD remote while I can still spend that $25 on Blu-ray movies.

+1. Not an issue for me personally, but what about consumers who aren't as educated? It wouldn't surprise me if a large portion of the installed base was experiencing lossy audio even on discs that feature lossless audio just because they aren't aware that they must manually change audio tracks.

Yes, but I like to have the audio all set before the movie or opening logo starts - as I'm able to do with the other studios.

You just described my dad. He lives in florida and kept telling me Uncompressed PCM sounded the same as the audio from all his standard dvd's. I informed him that he has to select and change the audio track from in the menu. Duh.

So I definitely concur.

To bad there isn't a way to set your PS3 to select the highest audio resolution possible.

Hey if I have to remember to select a PCM track I consider my self lucky compared to the junk HD DVD has to put up with.
