I just set up my sub / system (SB12-Plus), and I obviously have it in the wrong place because downstairs where the system is, I feel nothing; however, it shakes upstairs.
Here is my room layout: Next to the speaker to the left are stairs that lead upstairs to a large open area, to the right is a hallway. I am assuming this is the problem. The front speakers / tv are to the right of the sub about 6 ft. So, my question is this...should I place the sub in the back right corner facing in to the middle of the room where everyone will be sitting? In that corner there is no open areas. the back left corner is a little more set back as the room opens up a couple more feet to a fireplace, so I am guessing that is not the correct place. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

front
![]() front left ![]() left (opening in room) ![]() back left ![]() First off, i apologize for the mess...I just hooked up everything just to see how everything works, the tv hutch is not in yet. The TV above the fireplace is the old set up and will be removed once everything is set up correctly. The furniture is not in its normal place...there will be a couch in front of tv, chair to front left, and chair to front right. So, what do you think? |

Yup, the floor is concrete under the carpet.
I'm not sure if inbetwen the speaker and the tv would work once I get the hutch, there may not be enough room. |

I think the concrete hurts the boom the sub can put out in the room. Concrete will not transfer the vibration if that makes sense.
So when the upstairs booms from the sub. The sub is working the way it should but the concrete does not transfer the sound. Make sense? anyone? |

Why would you want your room to shake????
Do you hear the bass? If upstairs shakes, you need more acoustical treatments to keep the bass from vibrating the ceiling above/floor above. Maybe you have your sub level too high also. Have you tried an SPL meter? |

Every speaker is different depending on things like enclosure size, ported, sealed box,and so on. Some speakers the sound deveops (to hear it)within a foot and some take longer distances. It appears from your pics - brick walls, the wood walls and the large glass doors (glass=a sound engineers nitemare)- the whole room is like a large mirror for sound-thats why your l/f is developing thru out your home and not in front of your tv.

I don't want it to shake I guess, but I do want to "feel" it. I guess since I can't feel it, I can't really hear it. If I unhook the sub, it sounds pretty much the exact same as when it is plugged in. For an explosion, I want to feel like I am there feeling the explosion.
As for settings, I don't have any set ones...I played around with them a lot to find something I liked...however, I do know I have it at 80 hz, and everythign else is like a 1/4 up. Receiver settings-I haven't done anything besides the quick set up which just turned the sub on. So, with the glass door, I'm thinking maybe the best spot is in the extra area by the fireplace. I am going to end up moving it around a lot to find the best spot, but I sorta didnt' want to have to buy a 75 foot cable if I didn't have to. I also thought about placing the sub on a stand to get rid of the cement issue, that may help. |
