Post Virtually Interactive XMB

hope its not a repost...,..i searched but no find

its just a rumor but i will pick it up....i would love it...and this would be the only reason why would bye the eye............who saw minority report...ha ha ha

Quote:
We've heard about the In-Game XMB Sony has planned for the PlayStation 3 - a long overdue feature, as far as some gamers are concerned - but that won't be the final iteration of the Cross Media Bar. No, Sony is looking to bring that sucker to a futuristic level, if Joystick Radio is to be believed.

Apparently, in one of those "a friend of a friend's uncle who works at Sony Computer Entertainment Japan" stories, it seems Sony wants to implement a virtual XMB interaction scheme with the PlayStation Eye at the center. This nifty feature would arrive towards the end of this year, and would allow users to browse through friends lists, music, photos, videos, games, and anything else on the XMB...all with the flick of a few hand movements. You know, like how those ladies in an all-white room opened the gates to Zion in "The Matrix: Reloaded." Of course, there is the disclaimer this "might be a rumor," so it's certainly not confirmed. Typical.

Anyway, the real question is- how many PS3 owners would be interested in doing something like this? It's cooler, granted, but is it really any faster to utilize the XMB in this manner? We get the feeling that, because your hand movements aren't an exact science like pressing buttons on a controller, that it'd actually be slower. Frustrating, even. But you never know; the coolness factor might override all and make it a truly sweet way of interacting with your video games console. We'll let you know if we hear anything more about this

Dont you have to be in front of the eye for this to work? I would rather sit on my futon and use the wireless controller. I mean it is already going to be in my hands to play a game..

well it would be cool to sit your friend down on the couch and say "Hey... watch this!"

but... thats about it. It would be nice to have as a feature... but nobody would use it. Who cares though? Its free for us, and lets us show off some stuff.

This technique has already been used in the menu systems for the PS Eye Games... I can see this as being a viable feature for integration into the operating software. I would certainly use it. Hell, I loved the design of that feature in Minority Report so much that I would actually go out of my way to use it on the XMB all of the time!

I don't think the Eyetoy is up to this kind of sophistication. Eyetoy is a cool piece of machinery; and it's nice to see that they are thinking of ways to give you more bang for your buck and neat new features.

However, I would imagine this will be a very simplistic interface.

How I see it working:
Wave your hand on the on a folder under the video icon and it will expand. Then wave your hand over the icon (movie file etc.) and it will begin playing.

That seems easy, the question is, how will rewind, FF, stop etc work. Will there be permanent icons on the screen? Will it default to the remote once playback or gameplay begins?

Could be fun, but I doubt many would use it much after the initial tryout.

I am curious to know why people are pushing for in-game XMB access so badly? Sorry to sound so ignorant, but I never seem to actually want to access the menu when im playing a game...

Well if your playing a game of Tekken with a stranger and a mate comes on and says "Hey do you want a game of XXX?" via a message. You can turn Tekken off and join a game of XXX with your mates.

How would you feel if 25 of your friends all had this wicked awesome bout and you missed it because you couldn't read a message?

I'd love that feature, the more PS Eye features the better.

We have 40+ clan members on Warhawk - many of them are in other countries. Calling someone is not always an option.

We were trying to set up a clan battle and the server was having issues. When you see that somene sent a message saying "Can't get in" (since you can only see the subject line and can't "open" the message) - you have to exit the game you are playing just to answer. Then, start your game back up, find the room you were in - and hope you don't get another message that says, "Still can't get in". Cause now you have to quit your game again. etc, etc.

Unless you have a lot of buddies online, this feature won't be needed much, but if you do - it is indispensable for coordinating.

It would kind of be likee having a phone with no caller ID and no call waiting. Imagine hearing a beep while on the phone, but you have to hang up with the person you're talking to to answer it.

No go one step beyond, imagine you're watching a t.v. show and have to turn it off to answer the phone. It's kind of like that. Very annoying.

You get the idea.
