Smile MGM Films [Sony?]

Alright, so MGM is a subsidiary of Sony Pictures [right?]. So does that pretty much ensure that all MGM films are likely to come to BR? [I'm talking about new films...] Specifically, Charlie Bartlette [which came out this past weekend]. It's an MGM film, and it rocked, so I would love for it to come to BR. Thoughts? Is this likely?

THANKS.

Z

MGM, Columbia, and a few others are distributed by Sony Pictures, so yes, any of these will come out on Blu-ray.

MGM releases on Blu-ray are distributed by Fox.

Now that HD DVD has gone by the wayside, this really shouldn't be much of a concern, thankfully.

MGM is not a subsidiary of Sony. Sony is a significant shareholder of MGM. The distribution rights of the MGM movies are given to Fox. However, Sony controls the Blu Ray releases. I assume that all MGM movies will eventually will be released on Blu Ray.

Ownership of MGM:
PROVIDENCE EQUITY PARTNERS (29%)
TPG (21%)
SONY CORPORATION OF AMERICA (20%)
COMCAST (20%)
DLJ MERCHANT BANKING PARTNERS (7%)
QUADRANGLE GROUP (3%)

Fox handles all aspects of the video releases. Only the stuff like Rocky Balboa and Casino Royale and the next one that were started and financed by Sony are under their label.

Ah! I was wondering why Rocky Balboa was a Sony disc and not a Fox disc. I forgot the timing of their arrangement.
