Default Receiver Questions

I have a Sony 52" XBR4, a 60g PS3, and a XBOX 360 with component output only (one of the original ones, and everytime I've been shipped one back, I don't get the HDMI output). I currently have a Harmon Kardon AVR 235, but I'm looking to upgrade the receiver. I have a 5.1 setup, but I'd like to have 7.1 capability, as well as having a 1080p passthrough for my XBOX 360. Any suggestions? I'd like to stay around $500-$700. I've looked at some of the Onkyos, the Yamahas and the Pioneers (particularly the 1018 VXH).

Any help is much appreciated.

TK

Crackin,

I've seen that receiver and I agree it's a screaming deal, but I've heard it doesn't upconvert component cables - I would only get 720p for my 360 b/c I don't have the HDMI output. Is this true?

Thanks for your help,
TK

Only the 875 upscale in 1080p the signal tought Component, Composite and SVHS with HDMI

But if you pass 720p from the Xbox in Component, you can pass it untouched to you're display in HDMI. I have a 3808ci... and if i enable Upconvertion to 1080p there's isn't much difference from when i let it to OFF and use 720p. IMHO you better be buying a HDMI platinum if you really want HDMI. The Xbox itself upscale anything in 1080p, but i doubt it's any better than you're display..

correct. If you input Component signal and try to output it over the HDMI connection it will be 720p max.

But if you just connect Component and Component out to the TV there is nothing to worry about.

Plus you don't have to "share" picture settings with the HDMI input.

I saw an HDMI adapter at Best Buy the other day for the first-gen 360s that don't have native HDMI... maybe that's worth checking out?
