So...
I want an Onkyo TX-SR606, and in doing some research online, I ran across this review on cnet.com: http://reviews.cnet.com/av-receivers...-32956252.html It appears that there are some issues with the video processing on this model according to the reviewer. Now I am concerned, and am looking to you all for some reassurance. ![]() Have any of you, who possibly own this unit, noticed any processing/upscaling issues? Please help me! I just want some input... if I do connect a source that would be upscaled, is it going to look like crap??? I am guessing (not sure) that watching anything through HDMI will end up fine, like if I watch a standard DVD on my PS3. I am also assuming (dangerous, I know) that if I set the receiver to NOT upscale and just pass the signal through, that I should not have any issues. Honestly, The Nintendo Wii would be the only thing that would be connected that would have even a chance to get upscaled. My sources will be connected via HDMI (PS3, 360, cable box). Any advice would be very much appreciated. ![]() THANKS FOLKS!!! Last edited by Skulltap; 07-27-2008 at 04:10 AM. |

Even though I have mine set not to upscale, it still does something to the picture. I had to go through the special settings and change everything all around. And some inputs, I still can't change. And I was using HDMI, the component was even worse, you are better off with just connecting your component cables to your tv, and then running opitcal to your receiver.
But, for sound, I love it, I'm glad I decided to keep it. |

I think I may have overreacted just slightly. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that I wouldn't need to upscale anything at all anyway, and can just let it pass through. According to that very same review on cnet.com, the reviewer said that pass through looked normal. The comment above from the person who said that they still have issues with it somewhat bothers me (just in that I have a 606 on the way at this point), but I haven't read about any known consistent problems with the units, so I am going to roll the dice.
![]() If anyone else has any input, please feel free to post, and as always, thank you all for your help! ![]() |

i have an onkyo 606 and it is great. i have a ps3 hooked up and a dish network hd box. they both look fabulous. the tv is a sony grand wega rp and maxes out at 1080i. just set the video to pass through and you should be fine.
ps dont forget to leave lots of room above the 606 to breath (6" or more preferably) |
