Default Calibration

hey i just bought a 52 inch lcd and was wanting to calibrate it. i just bought it a week ago and i read somewhere online that you should wait a month after you have the tv to calibrate. is tis true or not? because otherwise i will just calibrate it now.

I have not actually heard that before. Are you calibrating it yourself, or are you paying someone to do it? If you're doing it yourself, there's no reason to not do it now. You can always (and should) check it again periodically. Also make sure you calibrate it for all of the different video inputs and sources you will actually use. Most HDTVs save settings for each input instead of using a single overall setting for all inputs.

There is a break in period. About 100 hours. There are some very good threads on the site describing the procedure and benefits of a proper calibration. The HD Basics disc is not calibrating the set.

The colors and lighting changes in the first couple hundred hours of use, then calibrate it. If it is calibrated before the colors set in then the colors may change after calibration slightly, defeating the purpose of the calibration.
