Default Rules for Double-Dipping

Upon hearing news of the upcoming extended version of Transformers on Blu Ray I started thinking about studios double dipping and when it is acceptable and when it is not. I cam up with some rules for double dipping.

In the case of Transformers, I understand that the studio would want to maximize profit on the release of the sequel this summer. If this is the case, they really should not have released Transformers at all on blu until this summer. I mean, they just released the theatrical cut in September.

Rule #1: There should be at least a two year period between the initial release and the double dip extended/directors cut/special/super edition. I would feel a lot better about purchasing the extended cut of Transformers if i bought the first release two years prior.

For Lord of the Rings, if they do not release the extended cuts of the movies for the 2009 release, then we can all pretty much assume that they will double dip and release them either along side the Hobbit's theatrical release or DVD/Blu Ray release. In this case a lot of us will either not buy the theatrical cuts or begrudgingly buy them and either hesitate to buy the extended cuts or not buy them at all.

Rule #2: If you already double dipped on the DVD side a couple years ago. You aren't allowed to do the same thing on blu ray. What you can do, however, is release the entire trilogy as a box set (much like the matrix) then release them individually later on for the hold outs who didn't want to buy the whole thing at once.

************************************************** ************

SPECIAL STAR WARS EXCEPTION RULE!

Release all 27 cuts of the movie on one collection and charge under $100 for the whole set, I am so sick of buying that damn trilogy and Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox has crossed the multiple release limit

Thoughts?

Exactly!

You would think that they would release movies to us for our entertainment or something!

Whenever you are trying to find some motive of ANY corporate (or government), just follow the green.

Default From now on, when you take a chip – just take one dip and end it!

I believe that Timmy from Seinfeld has already set out rules for Double Dipping and clearly states them to George!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWuSi00CcNk

Quote:
TIMMY: What are you doing?
GEORGE: What?
TIMMY: Did … did you just double-dip that chip?
GEORGE: Excuse me?
TIMMY: You double-dipped the chip!
GEORGE: "Double-dipped"? What are you talking about?
TIMMY: You dipped the chip. You took a bite. And you dipped again.
GEORGE: So…?
TIMMY: That's like putting your whole mouth right in the dip! From now on, when you take a chip – just take one dip and end it!
GEORGE: Well, I'm sorry, Timmy … but I don't dip that way. [George takes a chip]
TIMMY: Oh, you don't, huh?
GEORGE: No. [dips the chip] You dip the way you want to dip … [takes a bite of the chip] I'll dip the way I want to dip. [double-dips the chip]
TIMMY: Give me the chip! [Grabs George and the chip goes flying.] Give me the chip! [George and Timmy start to struggle.]

Good old Seinfeld .. why did it have to end? My girlfriend hates the show but it stands the test of time. The subjects it touched on are still valid even today. One of the best shows ever. I can't wait for the day Seinfeld becomes available on blu-ray.

It's all about the money I didn't expect this to happen so soon with re-releasing blu rays this fast.

All good things MUST come to an end, lest it become stale and predictable like The Simpson's.

Great rules, if a little naive. There is very little chance of getting 27 cuts of Star Wars for under $100. I settle for the original versions, in cleaned up video and audio for under $60 for a box set (with bonus features ).

LOL...heaven knows it costs more to ship a SD-DVD than you can get for it on E B AY.

Double dips for me only involve audio...has to be DTS HD MA something like 7.1 to get me to bite on it. It's just a preference of mine, the DTS HD MA.

I'm willing to double dip on my older titles if they're re-released with lossless audio. This includes:

Training Day
Shooter
The Fugitive
Italian Job
Mission Impossible Trilogy

A-------MEN!!!

Between the VHS, LASERDISC and DVD releases, I have enough copies of the original StarWars THRILL-ogy to start a Lincoln Logs project.

I'm pretty sure I can add a good sized edition onto anyone's house with the amount of hardware I have from Multiple StarWars releases.

I don't think there should be any rules. No one is forcing you to buy anything so if a studio wants to release something over and over, why should I care. If you want some "definitive" version, wait 10 years or 20 years or whatever for some anniversary edition.

Yeah, I'm on like my 5th or 6th version of Halloween and I would STILL buy it again if they release a totally overhauled version with the bluish color scheme added back in.

Keep in mind, you do not HAVE to buy the newest version. Completely up to you. I passed on the Star Wars Eps IV-VI re-releases after the 1st 4-disc edition came out. I did however just get the original trillogy laserdiscs lol. I also passed on the Indiana Jones re-hash crap that came out earlier this year.

I do double-dip often, and most of those times I sell my old copy to a friend or local used DVD shop. Take a bit of a hit, but oh well.

In the case of Transformers: I owned the 2-disc Steelbook DVD, then got the 2-disc HD DVD & sold the old set. I will only double dip again if the new 'Extended Cut' has a wealth of new extras. Since the Imax cut was only a couple of minutes longer, I'm not expecting much from this extended DVD.
