Is a Blu-ray DVD player worth it? - Blu-ray Forum

I am contemplating buying a new Sony BDP350 BR player today. It is on sale for $179.

I have a 50" Panasonic 1080 Plasma.

Is it worth it over regular DVD players?
Does it make a difference when playing regular DVD's in it?

Please reply asap as I need to know soon whether or not to buy it today.

yes, blu-ray is definately worth it.

yes, it will make DVDs look better.

Yes, I would recommend getting a BD player, especially seeing as you have a 50" 1080p Panasonic plasma. You should notice the difference right away. Don't forget to calibrate your tv if you haven't already.

Lol! Yes it will be well worth it. Once you see and hear the quality of blu-ray, you won't ever go back to the scrappy dvd. You won't believe your eyes when you watch it on your Panasonic Plasma. Everyone else in these forums will tell you the same thing.

You're contemplating it at $179? Most of us purchased a player at $400+

Contemplate buying for $179? Run don't walk to that store and get it. What's there to contemplate?

I got mine for $177 after waiting in line for an hour at 5 AM on BF morning. It was worth it.
