Default onkyo 606 vs 605

I want to make a purchase on one of these. My question is are there any major differences between them? I could get a new 605 for $250. the 606 is twice as much.

Thanks

606 extras over 605:
- 4 HDMI inputs
- An extra component video input
- Video scaler, capable of 720p/1080i output
- Audyssey Dynamics EQ*
- 10W more power all round
- New remote
- HDMI CEC system now compatible with Panasonic's Viera Link, Toshiba's Regza Link and Sharp's Aquos Link, allowing the receiver to give one-button control of suitable TVs from those brands

* Audyssey Dynamics EQ works in conjunction with the Audyssey 2EQ system to adjust the balance of the sound to compensate for changing volume levels, giving a more consistent sound when listening at low volumes.

I liked the 605 I had, just replaced it with the Denon. Audyssey does ok setup on 605, not near as accurate as Denon though.

I might as well wait for the 606 then.

Thanks for the quick reply>

Its generally better to get the new model in HT gear, not always though.

Twice as much just to get 2 more HDMI ports? I'd rather just buy a switch if it comes to that for me. The 605 has the same upscaling components the 606 has, as well as the same wattage (where are you getting this info?). Audyssey Dynamics EQ is just a DRC solution, where it's another night-time mode. There's already a solution for that in the 605, plus another one in most players (the PS3 has a DRC solution, for example). If that's really important to you, then definitely wait. However I really think that the 605 remains attractive because of the bang for the buck.

You're right on the power, heres a better description:

606 vs 605:

+Neural Surround

+Music Optimizer

+Audyssey Dynamic EQ

-No Front Panel Optical or S Video

-1 Less component video

+2 HDMI!

+HDMI 1.3A (as opposed to just 1.3)

-NO COMPONENT VIDEO UPCONVERSION

+1080i upscale

-NO XM

+Remote enhancements (Glossy Black, Simple input/mode selection)

+1 AMP LESS POWER CONSUMPTION

+2 ounces lighter

I think the "no component upconversion" may be wrong though

The biggest difference I thought was 2 more HDMI inputs. You can find the 606 cheaper if you search around!

Prob worth it for the newer Audyssey and hdmi inputs. The Audyssey on the 605 is ok, but not as accurate as it should be.
