Default Onkyo TX-SR606 Speaker Suggestions

Does anyone have speaker suggestions for this receiver. I know a lot of it is personal preference, but I'm looking for a nice speaker for a good price. Budget is around $500 or so hopefully less. I noticed that there were some nice Polk speakers on Newegg and Crutchfield websites, but just not sure how well they'll work with this receiver.

Thanks!

Just picked up the Polk RTi A1 bookshelf speakers and the CSi A4 center speaker, I have the Onkyo 605 which is very similar to the 606. I absolutely love the speakers they are simply tremendous. You may want to look on the Polk website and then look on their EBAY store front, the speakers are refurbished but are sold with a warranty. If you are in the NJ, Tri-State area try Interstate Electronics, fantastic prices.

Any 8-ohm speaker would work fine with an Onkyo 606. After that, it's down to personal preference.

Polks would work just fine if you can get them into your budget, the monitor line is being discontinued, so you have need to hurry and find them or they will be gone, a good substitute for the polk monitor 50 is the Sony 5000/6000, but its all subjective when your talking speakers, I think the monitor line is being replace with the TSi line..... but not 100% sure, I am sure someone will let you know in a few.....

Otherwise I and most others will say, get a few ideas and then go listen to them in a store and see what you prefer.... your ear, your speakers, your choice ultimately.

Are these the Polk speakers you are talking about? If so is that a good price. Looks good to me but I'm a noob with this stuff. Do they come as bookshelf speakers or just towers?

yes, $99 each is a fairly good price.. since they are discontinued, there is no guarantee that they will be around for any length of time, so you may need to jump on any deals you find quickly.

The equivalent to the 50's in bookshelf form would be the 40's. However, by the time you add stands you're above $99 apiece for those 50's.
