I purchased my first PS3 60 gb on launch day of 2006. I love that it was backwards compatable, sacd, 4 USB ports and the memory card slots. The one thing that I did find annoying was how loud the fan got during games and movies even when well ventilated. I got a second PS3 160 gb for Christmas and put it in the bedroom only to later move it in the living room. Even though it lacks all the original 60gb feautures it more than makes up for it with how quit it is even when I play or watch movies for hours. Does anyone else notice this who has the original PS3 and the new one? I always heard rumors that the new PS3 was a little quieter but I can say it is much quieter and no louder than a DVD player when playing movies and that is huge for me. The fan on the older models was distracting and a bit too loud at times while this 160g is as quit as a mouse.

Congrats, but I'd never trade backwards compatibility, SACD, and more importantly as I now have owned the PS3 since launch day 06 is two usb's for being a little more quiet. Nonetheless congrats on your second PS3 with a 160gb drive at that.
Having two additional usb's has turned out to be priceless. Last edited by Entertainment72; 01-01-2009 at 05:24 PM. |

What Sony needs to do is release a new 160 GB PS3 that retains all the features of the original 60 GB launch units. They could even charge more for it and I bet a certain number of people would pick it up. Why does the Xbox have like 5 iterations of their system and Sony barely offers more than 1?

I'd pay another $600 for an updated 60GB model. Make it maybe a 250GB HDD and make sure it plays SACDs, has the card reader and 4 USB outlets. |

Don't forget that the 80 GB MGS bundle is b.c. with all games as well. It also has 4 usb ports, the fan is quiet, and never overheats. I bought it this past month from Amazon for $499 free shipping and no tax. Two weeks later, Amazon had another batch of MGS bundles for the same price. Amazon will eventually have more on sale but gotta keep your eyes peeled.
