did you tell the PS3 to output audio through the hdmi?

Settings - Sound Settings - Audio Output Settings - HDMI

also, in the receiver...HDMI Audio = AMP

let me know how it turns out. I just bought a onkyo 705 for my ps3 60 gig.Plus I already have it hooked up to my tv with a hdmi cable. So I am curious to the outcome of your set up, considering I will have to hook mine up soon to.

thanks

I had this same problem with my 60GB PS3 and my Onkyo 605.. All Connected via HDMI... I fixed it by doing the manual audio setup in the PS3 instead of automatic. I then selected every audio option on the next menu and it worked. I now enjoy 7.1 audio bliss.. On those blu's that offer it anyways..

Sorry Im not familiar with your receiver but I also have a 60G PS3 and was having somewhat similar problems with my old Sony receiver. It ended up being the HDMI was only Pass-through and then even passed audio on to the tv speakers (which I had all the way down)

I ended up opting for a new Yamaha receiver that is HDMI only to my TV.

This doesnt really sound like your problem but thought Id throw it out there anyway.

Hello I have the 705 too with 40 gig ps3 and I have some minor problems when playing a movies it has small pop in the speakers when a blu ray movie starts to play, common for the 605 and 705 have had grounding problem that has hum sound thru the speakers. To get ride of the sound i just had the PS3 hooked up to a different outlet as the 705.
and the sound hum went a way.

The set up was easy and the movie blu ray moview play great but the upconvert movies are not so good. but that is why you have 3 HDMI plugs so you can use unconvert player.

Maybe a good old out dated toshiba A2 or so.

Good luck

Mike

I've been having bad hum issues with the PS3 60GB as well.

Here's what I have verified and the following things do not make it go away:

Different wall outlets. I had the ps3 in one room and the receiver in a different rum and the hum was still present.

Short HDMI cable (3ft) = hum
Long HDMI (15ft) = hum

My toshiba hd-dvd player HD-A35 does not have a hum issue.

I checked the hdmi input and switched the PS3 inputs on my receiver and every single hdmi input gave me hum...so It's not a receiver issue, I have a Onkyo 705.

It's gotta be a setting in the PS3 or the ps3 hardware itself.

Anyone else have this problem?
