Default Help? -- Onkyo 6100 HTiB related --

Hi all,

I have the 6100 HTiB, and for some reason my HDMI 2 input just stopped working??

I have a Blu-ray player running through HDMI 1 and that is working fine, HD DVD player through HDMI 2 which is not working, and a cable box through component input 3 which is working.

If I reset the receiver to default, HDMI 2/HD DVD player will work, but once I turn it off, it won't work when I turn it back on. I just get a message that says 'VHS No Signal' and a black screen. I've tried re-assigning the inputs, I've looked online, and I've read and re-read the manual, but I can't fix it to save my life...

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

It sounds like the problem is with the Onkyo receiver rather than the player. I am not aware of an issue that would cause the problem you have described. If the port or the wiring is screwed up there's not much you can do to fix it at home. Is it still under warranty?

While the issue you're having does sound like one that is hardware based, there is one thing that popped into my head:

Onkyo has a setting of something like "Last valid" - based on CODEC, listening mode, etc. I think that can be accessed through Input Assign on the set up menu. You may want to change that setting to a lower resolution.

I know that making a dig at the type of device you're trying to connect to HDMI 2 would generate a few chuckles at this site.... but, you're probably not in the mood for jokes...

Hmmm, thanks for the suggestions, but no luck yet.

This is frustrating.

While it may be the receiver malfunctioning, first try swapping HDMI cables and see if it still happens. It might just be a bad cable.

It's probably the receiver, but have you tried swapping devices, and putting the BD player on HDMI2 and the HD-DVD on HDMI1? If the problem stays, it's definitely the receiver (since you've already swapped cables) and if it follows, it's the player.
