Default black bars on top and bottom

Does anyone know if when playing a blu-ray disc on blu-ray player (Samsung DB-P1200) if your supposed to havev black bars on top and bottom of the screen? I'm using the Samsung BD-P1200 with a Panasonic HDTV 42" plasma with 1080i. so far only 1 movie i have plays utilizing the whole screen. I thought all blu-ray disc take up the full screen just like HDTV. Any thoughts?

Not all animated movies are "fullscreen" (or 16:9 friendly if that's what you mean) Lady And The Tramp is 2.55, Happy Feet and Monster House are 2.39, Sleeping Beauty was shot in Technirama (2.25 negative area, in 70mm was 2.20 and in 35mm Scope 2.35), Fantasia, Snow White, Cinderella, Peter Pan all 1.37, etc.

Anyway, again, BD-STX and jjack34, look at this link and go from there.

I prefer to watch my movies sideway, upside down sometimes if I'm in the mood.
