Default Replaced Soundtrack on DVD

Hello,
there are TV shows like Felicity, Dawson's Creek, Charmed and apparently soon Everwood where the songs have been replaced due to high copyright costs (and destroyed the original scenes imho). What I'd like to know is that why this happens only with series that aired on The WB? I mean there's a lot of series that have a big amount of songs and the soundtrack wasn't replaced. Don't songs cost the same to everyone?

I know that My Name Is Earl had songs changed. I had the first season recorded off TV and then I bought it on DVD when it came out and noticed a lot of music changes.

I first ran into this horrible practice with the series "Wiseguy" on DVD. The changes ruined my expectation when scenes I rememebered played and the music had changed. Some excellent scenes were mood wise altered and it was bad (for me).

Sadly, this practice will continue and I don't think it can be stopped.

I'd like to know what exactly causes this, the studio of the songs?

If time passes and there's a re-realease in BD could it contain the original songs? The prices will go down with time?

Most likely with shows today, they sign contracts that are songs to be used on "Television Only" because it might cost way too much for the studio to pay for the royalties on DVD/Blu-Ray.

The "Night Of The Living Dead" 30th Anniversary Limited Edition DVD had an all new musical score when Anchor Bay released it in 1999,John Russo(not sure if him and Romero are even friends now?) really screwed up an all time classic by replacing sneces with new ones, how Anchor Bay really messed up is they had a great looking version of the original 68 film icluded as well, but it had that NEW score and the original was NOT an option, this in my mind is Anchor Bay's only bad release to date. Thank got for Elite's version which is awesome
