Default How much will UP make opening weekend?

Is there a chance that something else could be number 1? The theaters are starting to get pretty full now. How do you think the top 5 will stack up?

Remember that the 3D ticket price is higher than traditional pricing so that should help UP on it's numbers.

i think Up will undoubtedly be #1 this weekend.

i expect the top 5 to shake out like this

Up
Terminator Salvation
Night at the Museum (i'm expecting Up to take most of its business and drop it behind Terminator)
Star Trek
Drag Me to Hell

I expect star trek to make a good chunk of change, its still in over 4,000 theaters. And it'll be crossing $210million this weekend

edit: forgot to give my vote, i voted for 50-60 million, but it could be 60-70 easy if more Night of the Museum business goes towards it than i anticipate.

With the reviews flying around (pardon the pun) I think "UP" is going to be #1 and have huge box office results after this weekend.

1. UP (60+ million easy)
2. Terminator Salvation
3. Night at the Museum 2 (due to people not getting into UP)
4. Drag me to Hell (depending on the number of theaters and it's getting good reviews from what I've seen)
5. Star Trek

It is still playing at 3,500 theaters going into its fourth weekend. Will pass the $200 million mark today, the first movie to do so in 2009.

i think it'll be holding on to a good amount of theaters for a while
wonder if it'll make it to 300million

its only dropped below $2million for a single day twice (1.8million, yesterday and the day before)

Just saw Up and it was excellent so it will definitely be #1. Drag Me to Hell looks great as well but horror rarely makes major bucks. I hope Terminator says strong because I really liked the movie and would to see a sequel.

My top 5 prediction:

1. Up (60 - 70 Million)
2. Terminator: Salvation (15 - 20 million)
3. Night at the Museum 2 (10 - 15 million)
4. Drag Me to Hell (10 - 12 million)
5. Angels and Demon (6 - 9 million)

It won't make it to $300 million. $250 million tops, and that is a great take.

250 is what i was thinking

after that its just wait and see, i think it will definitely hit the 250 mark though
i'm going to have to go back to the star trek thread and see how much i originally thought it would make

edit: found it

250-300ish overseas
250-300ish domestic also

The tv spots that I've seen running, are really bad. It seems like a tough movie to sell.

Despite the positive reviews, I do not predict a huge financial success for Pixar. It won't be a bomb. But I don't think it will be the huge financial hit people are expecting. This will be Pixar's 'Bolt'.

Nikki Fink already has her very early estimates up. When she's off, it's usually only by a million.

EARLY BOX OFFICE: 'Up' Soars For $17M Friday, $55M Weekend; 'Drag Me To Hell' $7M/$18M; 'Star Trek' Will Become 1st Film Of 2009 To Pass $200M

FRIDAY 3:30 PM: Hollywood plans a 2nd straight weekend friendly for family filmgoers who have pent-up demand. With 20% of K-through-12 out of school today, Pixar/Disney's 10th pic and first 3-D movie, Up, was able to get a jump on the domestic box office with busy matinees from 1,534 3-D theaters -- a record -- and a total of 3,766 theatres total. So the unusual toon starring the voice of Ed Asner and receiving rave revenues looks like it could open to around $17 million for probably a $55M weekend. So the grosses should end up smack in the middle of Ratatouille ($43M) and Wall-E ($63M), both for Pixar. And just shy of DreamWorks' first 3-D film Monsters vs Aliens which opened at $59.3M over Spring Break. Disney has been marketing Up as a four-quadrant movie that hits all bases -- from comedy to adventure, and Pixar’s most emotional film thus far.

The other newcomer should come in 3rd: Universal's subtly titled horror pic Drag Me To Hell from Sam Raimi's devilish direction is on track to debut at $7M today and $18M for the weekend. Its box office potential looks similar to The Strangers which Uni opened to $20M last year on this same date.

20th Century Fox's sequel Night Of The Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian held well during today's matinees and should finish down only 50% from its #1 opening last Friday. It will come in 2nd for the weekend with about $25M.

What ends up in 4th, 5th and 6th places is anybody's guess. My box office gurus expect Warner Bros' disappointing Terminator 4: Salvation to probably end the weekend with $20M. Followed by Paramount's Star Trek and Imagine/Sony's Angels & Demons perhaps battling for 5th: both may be in the low teens for the weekend. But the JJ Abrams' franchise reboot will become the first movie of the year to pass $200M this weekend.

I just think that with Up out, more kids would flock to that over Night At The Museum. Plus Terminator should hold strong (I hope) just considering the only other adult movie released this week is Drag Me To Hell and being horror, lots are turned off by it.

I don't know, just my thinking

I predicted $50 to $60 million but to have good legs (like every Pixar film).
